2002 F150 5.4. HEAD GASKET!!!
Hey guuuuuyyyyssssssss. My grandpa has a 5.4 triton and he had a miss on one of the cylinders. Soo he took it to a shop and they told him it was a blown head gasket. He has coolant in the cylinder and exhaust gases in the coolant. So now he has asked me to change it. And i said yes. Andddddd now I'm looking at it and researching and people are saying, "I need to take the cab off, or take the engine out...." I've done head gaskets on trucks and never had to do that. Is this true???? Also any videos on how to di it?? Any help is appreciated. Oh also I keep hearing that I need a fan clutch tool to take it off to get to the water pump, and a cam tool to hold it in place?.?.?? And a crank shaft tool??? Thanks for the help guys

Do not quote me on this but I feel I saw somewhere that it is the rear bolts on the head that are the big pain and there is a way to do it without removing cab or engine. However I think it is a big pain and is suggested to just bite the bullet and although a bit more time remove the engine or at least raise the cab upwards a few inches to remove the bolts. Also if the exhaust manifold gaskets have never been replaced there is a good chance you will be snapping a lot of the studs on the exhaust.

Bluwindsor,
Couple of years ago, someone posted the whole procedure of changing both heads without taking out the engine or raising the cab. It used to be a sticky at the top of the forum, but not sure where it went. I'll look around, but if I can't find it, try take a search of the forum or hopefully LxMAN1 knows where it is. As far as the specialty tools, you can usually rent them from an auto parts place like AutoZone, Advance, NAPA, etc. for a decent price.

Bluwindsor,
Please check out this post by Grashopr. It should help you out.

It's not exactly what I remembered. I'm sure there was a sticky created when someone recorded the whole procedure and had some pictures. I'll look for a bit and see if I can find that one.
Good luck,
Mizzleman
