Disconnect the coil from the truck entirely, connect one jumper lead from the positive side of the coil to the positive post on the battery, and connect another one to the negative side but keep the other end from touching anything.
Connect a wire to the high tension post on the coil, and put a spark plug on the other end. Lay the spark plug on something grounded.
Take the test lead that is connected to the negative post and tap it on the negative battery post. Do not hold it for more than a second on the battery. The spark plug should give a nice bright blue spark with a decently loud snap every time you lift the wire off the battery. If it does not, the coil is bad.
I do this same test right in the vehicle. Unhook the neg. side of the coil and use attach a jumper to that coil terminal and tap it to good ground to look for spark. I have an old spark plug I soldered a big alligator clip to the side of to use for spark testing, very handy.
And I have seen coils ohm out ok and still be bad, but only 3-4 in my 63 years.
Dude, you have 6220 posts on this forum in 5 years. And I have just 101 in about a year and a half. One of us must have a life and the other not so much. Bye bye.
Man, where did this come from?
Hmmmm. Wonder where that puts me?

It puts you in the catagory of someone that has gained a vast amount of knowledge and is willing to share it to other like minded folks,.....for free. I salute you
My experience with bike & cars sites is that for every 100 peeps who post, only about 4 or 5 know what they are talking about. That is OK with me as long as its all positive but when it isn't, well life is too short to put up that cr@p. Google it.
So you're upset with me because I told you to do something for yourself? Good lord....
The first time I needed to test a coil, I didn't know how. Guess what I did? Looked it up! I found out how to do it within a 5 minute window.
I told you yes, it can be done, and that you would need a multi meter. The "Google it" part was so you could figure out for yourself how exactly it is done, and what kinda resistance numbers you should be looking for. Had you done that, you would have figured it out a lot faster than waiting around here for someone to hand you an answer....
If trying to help you help yourself offends you, I do not apologize.
it puts you standing there next to me shaking our heads wondering what this guys problem is...
Kinda reminds me of a guy a few months back posting about some brake problems he had. Evidently, he didn't like my response about what his problem likely was and he proceeded to get sideways and disrespectful with me about it.
I take of a lot of my time in an effort to try and help people with their problems (particularly as it relates to brake systems) because I have a great deal of experience with them and over the several decades I've fooled with them, I've encountered the same problems people post about and I know what the solutions for them were when I experienced them --it's the hard lessons that stick with you.
Kinda makes a person want to say "eff-it" when some body doesn't appreciate your time and your attempt to help sort out THEIR problems.
I could be doing other things or dedicating my time to someone else that actually appreciates it instead.

I didn't perceive you were just blowing greasy rider off when you made the "google" it statement. I'm sure you could explain how to do it to him but, there are various write ups on the net already written out (and with diagrams) that explicitly shows how to check a coil. It would be faster for the OP to look up this information than the time (and space it would require) for you to write it all out here.
I guess I've been here long enough to know your nature and to know you weren't trying to be a smart *** in your response to him.

Nor would I expect you to *********. But the fact remains that, every question that ANYONE ever asks on this site could be answered with: Google it. FU

That's exactly right. Glad somebody understood it.

Moderator, is this man not completely out of order with that insult and statement?
Should he not be blocked?
Pretty strong words. Betcha he wouldn't have the ***** to say such things to someone in real life.... But of course everyone is 10 ft tall and bullet proof behind the keyboard....
