I agree with the dark tint being a pain at night, especially with the large lit up screen on the dash reflecting back on you. I've got tinting all around on my Jeep Wrangler, and trying to back-up or maneuver around at night is a pain. You can't see out the windows or with any of the mirrors. I often put something over the dash screen & roll down a window. However, I do like some additional tint on the front windows so it's harder for passing officers to see if I have my seat belt on.
One thing I'd add, I typically tint not for darkness, but just to keep the cabin cooler and a failing attempt to lessen sun damage on the families skin..
Factory tint (like someone mentioned) is in the glass, it's deep dipping.. an electrical process that dyes the inside of the glass. It's only purpose is to provide privacy.
Glass itself blocks UVB, doesn't matter if it's tinted or not.. but deep dipping does not block UVA.
Ceramic tints (like 3M Crystalline mentioned above ) are amazing. Personally I use Huper Optik ceramic tint. You can't get it incredibly dark, but even on my factory tint, sun roofs, and windshield, I'll put their lightest version over the factory pigment, and then get the front windows to match the rear darkness (couple shades lighter perhaps).
You can get them nearly clear, and get the full UVA blocking and heat shielding.
It looks really nice from the outside, a slight sheen to it, and on the lighter ones, can't even tell they are there, other than stepping into your truck on a 90 degree day and it feeling oddly cool inside.
