Two weeks ago I drove by a rusty dusty 1960 F100 panel truck with a "$300" sign on its broken windshield and ... it followed me home. Engine turned with resistance using a wrench without a cheater. Pulled the valve cover and several rocker parts fell out. One rocker arm is broken and the broken-off piece nowhere to be found. The other parts that fell out were from the rocker arms on either side of the broken one. They were the little spring and cap insert that holds the "three-leaf clover"-shaped spring that rides in a grove between the business-end of the arm and the top of the valve stem. It's what drives the valve open on downstroke. Here's my question: what engine is this? Looking for that style rocker arm on the net, I found some for the bigger engines or a 63-64 223. I thought I had a 60 223. I read on some forum Ford's early engine numbers don't make much sense, but the numbers on my engine appear to be 03AE6015AG (on left side bottom area of crankcase. It's got the spark plugs on the right side and eight bolt valve cover, three on tree looks original to me, engine mounts on each side at the very front. I'm hoping to get the engine running then flip it. I like to solve puzzles and ressurrect the dead, and have a soft spot in my head for old trucks, but, my skill set is "shade tree" level.
Yes that's it. Looks like the parts from the adjacent rockers fell out because there were no push rods for all three rockers. I'll attach photos as soon as I figure out how. Do you know which digits, if any, in the number on my crankcase indicate year? My number, on closer inspection, appears to read: C3AE6015AC

Hmmm, my valve train definitely has the other style rocker arms with the funny ring thing held in position by a chrome cap and spring. I ordered an NOS rocker arm off ebay, ad said it was for a 63-64 223. Saw a whole set for a v-8 but not for a six. Putting it in car engines makes some sense since it would run without lash tapping noise. Anyway, now that I've spent a good part of the day trying to figure it out, looks like I'll pull the head to see if the valves were stuck. I know I'll need several pushrods, they're missing. Short honeymoon!
I'm confused, you listed the one for a 292 and we are talking about a 223 I6. There has to be two different part numbers for the two different style rockers used on the 223?

You're confused? I'm the one that's confused...listing a Y block arm instead of the 223.
B6A-6564-G (replaced EAA-6564-B) .. Valve Rocker Arm / Obsolete
The mystery continues. Sounds like it could be stock engine (perhaps with a limited run using the zero-lash arms), or could be car, later F100 I-6 or out of 600. I'll try to research the engine numbers, etc. I know there's info in forum archives, just haven't dug deep enough for it. Thanks Bill and Jim.
