Looking at picking up a cv front end this weekend for my 63. Have a choice between an 04' or an 06'. Are there any differences between the two that I should be aware of?
Yes the earlier ones 03 to guessing 07 have alum control arms and the newer ones changed to steel control arms....not sure if for cost or that the steel was stronger....mine is from an 09
My understanding that 03 and up are the same. I have a 07 in my 66.
Have a build thread? What did you do about the different wheel pattern? Sorry about the questions just doing my hw for my 66 since i plan on swapping the front suspension out just cant decide mustang ii or cv....
red: You make it sound like there are ONLY two choices for front suspension (CV & Mii), but have you looked @ the Jag front crossmember swap, or the Crossmember available from Industrial Chassis that uses donor parts from a Dakota? There are also more choices, with suspension available from No Limit Engineering, and now also from Porterbuilt.
There are probably others I'm forgetting, but the point is, the choices go well beyond just CV & Mii
Cheers!

Didnt mean to make it sound like there are only two options, just the options im in decision with. I have looked at all options... looking into the CV option because of the cost. I did look into PB Fab but their kit isnt for the 65-66...really like their kit. The least looked into option i looked into was the jag front clip. Really i am just trying to do as much research as possible on the swaps
Well, I just learned something, I thought Porterbuilt had the slicks covered, but after going & looking just now, you are 100% correct, they only cover the straight axle slicks.
The Jag front crossmember deal looks decent to me,and the Jag is over 4000lbs, so in the same weight class as a slick Both the upper & lower control arms are forged, decent sized brakes, etc. Where it will lose points (from your budget installation standpoint) is, although it will be inexpensive enough to purchase a donor crossmember with all the trinkets, to go through the brakes, balljoints, bushings, rack, etc will run into some $$, whereas you have a decent chance of finding a CV that is new enough to just plug & play
I still don't care for the CV, because I just don't like the wacked offset rims that you have to run, that alone (for me personally) is a deal breaker...
When I get to this stage, for me, I think the choice will boil down to either the Jag, or Industrial Chassis Dakota based crossmember......

Curious what offset wheel is ran up front with the CV swap? I read that the bolt pattern is different than the rear axle unless you swap the rear too to match the front but coulnt find a definite like backspacing/offset on wheels for the cv up front on the slicks.
May look more into the dakota front end to see whats all involved with that. Just hate the mustang ii swap is so expensive with some of these places.

I am in love with the CV swap and I don't mind the wheels I have...to each their own
yep rears are a going to be a CV rear end.......steering shaft I did with 3/4" drive shaft that is collapsible from a local parts store...it fit perfectly and has 3/4 unions each end
power steering....I mounted a 4.6 mod motor on the CV suspension...which is what was originally there.........power steering on engine hooked right up correctly to rack and pinion...
Very nice setup
