I have a 93 F150 with a once dark red interior and the carpets are pretty faded. Does anyone know what products i can use, like spray dyes or things like that?
If you have a Han***** Fabric Store around you - try there. I don't know if I would want to dye the carpet, or just find a replacement. If the dye gets on your shoes - you could have a mess with shoe prints everywhere. Never had tried it - just thinking out loud.
You might want to try Auto Custom Carpets at 800.633.2358 or local in Alabama 205.236.1118. I have not bought any carpet from them in a few years, but they have a very nice product at very nice prices...
I've never dyed automobile carpet before, but we did dye our entire livingroom and my boys bedroom with Rit Dye, buckets & a mop. Sponged it in, wet vac'd it then aimed fans to dry it. That was about 8 years ago and I've had to re-do the heavy traffic area once. We would mix one box with one bucket of water, marking the fill line for the first bucket so that we got the mix the same for each additional bucket needed. We let it sit for about an hour then sucked as much excess water out as we could. Biggest thing is to try and get it dry asap. Once it was completely dry, we didn't have any problems with staining our clothes, socks, whatever.
You can pick up Rit Dye at just about any Grocery or Dept store for I think around $1.50 to $2.00 a box. For truck carpet it should only take one box. It doesn't bring the life back into the carpet but it sure did what we needed on a tight budget.
Way back in to 70's I used to use a spray can dye on my 65 Mustang's black carpet. It would fade; I just sprayed some on and it looked like new. A 20 second job.
All that I can remember is that it looked just like a can of paint. Somebody must still make it. I used to use it alot between the bucket seats. It left a little bit of "dust" that I would vacuum up a few minutes later. Carpet would look like new. It may have been called fabric spray.
I just dyed some of my dash parts with that spray dye, worked good, says it works for carpet too. I got it from a local Ford Specialty shop. But Ive seen it at lots of auto parts stores. Should be easy to find.
