dual wheel help on my 4wd swap

Finally got around to scoring some drw front hubs for my 85 f350 drw 4wd conversion. What I didn't realize is that I went to mount my original 85 dually wheels onto the front hubs (came off of an 87 4wd Cab and Chassis)
the indexing of the locating pins is backwards compared to the 85 and the rear on the 87...
not sure if it matters...but the rear C+C sterling has the firestone wheels just like all 6 of my 85 wheels...
best I can describe...looking at a front wheel, lug side....the 85 locating stud is at 12 o clock....this puts the receiving hole at 3 o clock..
no problems on both rear axles and 2wd front hubs.
so on the front hubs and wheels off the 4wd C+C .... put the locating stud at 12 and the receiving hole is at 9 ...
I know the simple answer is remove the studs...but I was hoping to understand what I have here from the 87 donor hubs...

Has anyone ran into this?
btw all 6 of my 85 are firestone 85333 wheels, so are the 4 rear on C+C..
the fronts on the C+C appear different in the regard there is stamping on the outside of the wheel as well as the inside...one is an accuride one is firestone...the accuu is stamped 87 and the firestone 85

thanks a bunch

1st off we need to understand what the loading studs were for...
To locate the valve stem on the inner wheel to an accessible spot(a hand hole)

Then you realize that they are not necessary as long as you are not an idiot when bolting your wheels on

Understood Brad..
Guess I'm hoping to understand why I have an 87 C+C with two different sets of wheels and a set of front hubs that match that different wheel

Yes but why..it can't be original to the truck..you would need two different wheels for a spare...
I thought this stuff was the same somewhere in 84 up to 97 ..hubcentric with the only difference being wheel offsets because of the different tires these trucks were fitted with from the factory.
My best guess is one of these hub sets is not original to this truck and I'm just trying to figure out what truck they may have come from

80-85.5 was independent front axle
late 85-97 was solid front axle

2wd rims have a 5.00 back spacing
4wd rims have a 5.35 back spacing

it sounds like you have a mix of of 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive parts.
most likely a 2 wheel drive rear axle and 4 wheel drive front adapters.

Hmmmm ok...
So that would suggest different wheels came through on 4wd dually rigs...if that's true ,that would explain why my original 85 2wd wheels won't fit...and would also suggest the rear on the 87 C+C is from 2wd and they indeed do have different pin orientations. ..
Am I on the right track?

no suggestion on the 4wd cab and chassis wheels.they came with 235/85/16 tires.when loaded they need more spacing between the duals than what is safe with the 2wd offset,so those all got the increased back spacing.
the 2wd pickup duallies came with 215/85/16.

sounds right.that's interesting about the different pin locations on 2wd vs 4wd rims.i was unaware.
if i were you,i would make it correct by matching the wheels.depending on how many you have more of and or what tire size you plan to run.

I'm not sure that's a fact on the orientation thing...
Just reaching for ideas..
I Understand about the offset and the tire width differences. But this pin part is new to me..and throwing me off...maybe it is a 4wd thing along with offset thing?
Have to dig a little deeper..iI know I have like 12 of these 2wd rims between spares and the two trucks...these fronts on the 4wd are the only muts

Good to go as long as I grind all of those locating pins off of those wheels or none of them will fit on the front..
I have one more hub to swap.
I'm going to take a real good look to see if anything can be done before I go grinding pins
Maybe it's a dowel that can be driven out and swapped or something..who knows...

IIRC they are roll pins than can be removed but grinding them flush works just the same
