Injector contribution code... anything else but replacement?

We've seen all kinds of questions on this type of issue. Smoking injector, missing, rough idle, skipping...... and beyond.

Coming home last night from a 150 mile round trip, #8 throws a contribution code. I cleared it, didn't come back but it's missing bad. Buzz test shortly and try ForScan and see if I can turn it off and on.

Anything else I'm missing? Once it throws this code, it's pretty much a toast injector... just seeing if anybody else has a significant comment for educational purposes?

Thanks

Randy,

Seems everyone including myself makes a try at fixing a bad injector.
But really how much if your time worth when you can have a nice fresh
Ford reman for a bit over $200. The only thing worth trying to isolate
it to the injector and not any of the support systems.
Also being #8 at the end of the line when if the engines life was the blue
spring done. I ended up doing both #7 & #8 after I did the regulator update
because both were showing a lot of issues.
Being that they are at the end of the line they can suffer from loss of flow
as pressure drops off do to the regulator being up to snuff.

But back to the point how much is your time worth and how much time
do you want to spend on something like cleaning spool valves and maybe
having to redo the torque on the spool valve bolt?

That's just it... I can be in and out in two hours. I need the truck up and running, I have another vehicle to drive but it's not the truck and it won't haul anything.

Kind of what I thought... it's the injector, everything else is a pass.

Isn't low pressure, I'm running an AirDog II 165 @75psi.

If there was an electrical problem I thing you would also show a code for circuit "high" or "low" or simular

Are you the first and only owner? I did not see the problem I was
having with 7&8 till I started looking to a slight rough idle.
I had put the blue spring in at 145K miles. I think I did the
injectors at 175K.

I really think Ford and IH could of done us all a big favor by installing a
regulated return. They are almost there as it stands now.

I know I've posted this before but have had on and off intermittent on #6....contribution code.......nobody can ever witness it, but it pops up maybe once every three months. I clear it, it stays away and will come back. This is the injector that was replaced before purchase.
It's got me stumped, but I'm not in the same boat as you obviously. This was after I did the blue spring waaaayy back when the HPOP was R and R'd, so it's not like that cured it.

I'm well aware it's just a matter of time before new sticks will be going in, but for now the originals remain at 140k miles(minus #6)
....I do run Opti Lube XL extreme lubricant each and every tank.......that much the oldest does add without fail each time he fills up.

Something you might try is use a contact cleaner on both sides of the injector harness and injector for that
stick. Then give it some dielectric grease and see how it does. While you have the thing unplugged take a
close look at the pins and sockets. Look for bent or corroded contact points. The one thing you can't check
without a special tool is pin and socket retention force.

I have the tool but don't have the force spec to set it for checking this item.

If you have a bare injector pin you might see how each of the 4 places feel
in comparison to one of the other injectors. You must only use an injector pin
anything else and you risk stretching the socket. This is the reason you always
want to back probe any connectors and not force a probe tip into the open end
of the socket.

no offense, but i've heard problems with the AirDog and the FASS systems. seems the motor keeps burning out. also, if u got that setup, did u go for bigger lines and regulated fuel return? part of the issue with the HPO system is 2 injectors usually get starved for fuel. now thats a more common problem with the 7.3, but we still get that issue too. bigger lines, fuel sump and regulated fuel return helps prolong the life of ur bigger fuel pump. u might even have or be thinking of a bigger turbo. lol. just my 2 cents. it may already be discussed or u might be aware of it. don't mind me. i'm just trying to cover the bases.

My return line has been removed and the blue spring is gone, same for the upper filter. My injectors see 75 psi of pure fuel. I did have a pump burn up some time back and replaced it with the new 4G version that's supposed to not have the same issues... flooding from a bad seal, we'll see. Can't say it wasn't from that , but it was some months ago, nearly 6 now.

I'm going to sound like an old record, IDS. Or just change the injector.

Although the point about checking the pins is a good one before all that work.
