Explorer/interceptor

Today i made a deal for a new (29 miles) interceptor, based on the explorer. 3.7 v6, awd. How much different of a animal is this? A little stripped down, but priced right and runs great! Any info on this will be appreciated.

This is the package that the police department where I deliver mail is using and theirs are all AWD. There are five city LEO's on my route and they all say the Explorer is the way to go.

Yes,that is what my dealer says. The only issue we have so far is no console, but we are trying to find something aftermarket that will work. Consolevault looks nice. Probably some aftermarket wheels also.

A salvage yard would have some for sure.....plug and play (unless there's something about the police package that would interfere.

I'm surprised Ford is selling police interceptors to consumers

The only console issue is that the interceptor is column shift. A mechanic at work said he thought it has the Mustang 3.7. I still have my fingers crossed on the sale, i am picking it up tomorrow.

Is it the stock 3.5 turbo engine like in the sport or is it tuned differently ?

I could see where the leo's like it ! many, MANY cities/states are using them now...

It is the 3.7 (non turbo),will try to find the engine model. It has some special tune that detects hard acceleration and switches the tune in the computer.
Picked it up today, in my garage and tagged.220 amp alternator, dual exhaust, 245 55 18 police tires.

Got a aftermarket console for a Jeep wrangler, fits great and looks like it was made for it. We got it from rugged ridge.

And here I thought you could only order/buy a PI if you were a city/govt. good for you. How does it perform?
