Hello everybody I wanted to post a picture of a truck my Grandfather build back in the 1980's. I was fortunate enough to have the most amazing Grandpa ever! The guy was a creative genius. He could make the coolest stuff from an old pile of junk. I have long dreamed of replicating this truck and I am still working out the details. If anyone has any information on what certain parts are on this truck I would love to hear from you. I still cant figure out what vehicle he got the headlights from. I believe that the rear box was a 1970's GM dually box that was modified in the front. I remember that the truck had a monster fuel tank and it was located in the front center of the box. There was a lid that folded back to reveal the tank. I am still waiting to meet with my uncle (his son) to see what he remembers.
Hey thank you very much Sam! I believe that you could be right on the Diplomat headlights. He must have modified the sides of them though from what I can see in pics. I sure wish that I had more pics of this truck!
I am thinking of actually building a replica of this truck. I will try to get the appearance as close as possible to the original. I may go with a slightly different paint color though. I was thinking of a candy red. I am also wondering if a Cat C15 would fit. I want to build a truck with a lot of power. I have built many custom cars in my day but this is a big step up in size from what I am used to. I would also like to get some air disc brakes. This is going to be a big project!
