Just picked up my first excursion, I have it scheduled to go In for rust repair next week. As I was going over the car I engaged the 4x4 and it did this:

So needless to say I am looking for recommendations on replacement parts. I am putting a 5 inch rough country lift on and I want to make sure I get the right parts

I'm guessing that ex came out of a salt water flood from a hurricane ?

As for parts... Been many years since I last rode in a vehicle with rough country shocks but I recall them being way to stiff. Hopefully they resolved that and have better valving then in the past.

As far as the driveline twisting,

Where you moving when you engaged 4x4 or did you do it while stopped and then try to power forward ?

What I am getting at, does the front differential rotate or is it frozen solid ?

Some details surrounding the break would be helpful.

I put it in 4wd and then proceeded to move, lasted all about 10 seconds. once I heard the noise I stopped and went underneath and saw the mess. Truck was from the beach area but not a flood, not that there's that much difference in the amount of rust this has from a flood.

If it was my project I would look for a crashed f250 or excursion donor truck as I see no end in sight to the parts needing replaced.

Make sure to check your front axle out throughly before trying 4x4 out again when you get a new shaft in it. Me thinks you have some internal axle issues to resolve.

HOLY CRAP!!!

What pirate said... Buy a donor truck, replace everything. I lived in Ohio for many years, with it's salted roads, and didn't see that much corrosion...

Having grown up at the beach and driven in the dunes all my life, my opinion is that EX has spent some time in the saltwater.

Beach town living is definetly hard on vehicles but the worst corrosion is typically found on exposed body surfaces and metal surfaces that are exposed to the prevailing wind direction in relation to where the vehicle is typically parked overnight.

What is see are parts that are extremely corroded on all surfaces far up under the chassis out of the wind , like you find with a submersion.

Looks like the exhaust was recently replaced. Crawl under the vehicle and check the top side of the engine and transmission crossmembers. If they are rusted similar to the bottom then submersion is almost certain. Not that it matters at this point as it looks pretty far gone regardless of what caused it.

Sell it and try another rig, don't waste your money or it will become a bigger and bigger pit.

^^^^^ what he said, I've never seen rust that severe on a vehicle there might be severe frame rust that might not be repairable.
