I'm in the process of finding bumper guards for my pickup and I got to thinking.....what do you guys have on the front bumper? I was oringinally going to go with a chrome grill guard, but with prices and being hard to find it just wasn't worth it.
I've thought time and again what if anything I'd put on the front. I dont really like the total brushguard things, they throw the lines out of sync. Have thought about an old style grill guard/push bar, but have only seen one other rig like mine with one and not sure if I like it. I'll probably just leave her as she is until something smacks me in the face and I cant stop from buying it.
I was thinking about bolting on a railroad tie with a strip of tire tread tacked across it until I can build my own bumper with a welder. Alternately - one of these days I'm bound to see something while I'm searching a scrapyard that I just can't do without.
A service bumper would be nice - but those suckers are as expensive as all get out (especially if they're chrome plated).
I was thinking of a stock appearing set that would fold down when activated and allow 2 four foot long spears, like the ones they use for those big haybales, to extend and retract. That way when one of those little turd boxes zips in front of me when I am towing a trailer I can poink a couple of nice holes in his butt and then retract them real quick. Yeah, I know, I've been watching too many old James Bond movies.
They would also work on those people that run a stop sign to pull out in front of you only to proceed at a snails pace or accelerate at a rate that could be measured with a sun dial.
I have a warn system at the front, black powder coat, with brushguard, bumper and winch mount.. It looks good, so much so that a truck without one looks odd to me. We grow to love the look of own truck, so whatever you put on there will grow on you.
I think for a Ford 4x4 you can not beat a piece of 6 x 3 x 1/4 C channel steel or 4 x 1/4 tube steel. Which is what I usually put on my truck and then add whatever I want to that.
Does anybody remember when bumpers were placed on the front of trucks to protect the front end?
Now it's mostly a fashion statement made of sheetmetal and plastic that's part of the trim package...........blech!
Strikes me as odd that now we have to protect the bumpers.... exception being a mount for the winch, but that's a functional add on. I must be getting old.
Got a full Manik brushguard on my '91.I do alot of beach driving
and the trails to the beach are narrow and full of gnarly shrubs.
It also helps disguise the line of my wheels which have a 2" back space, they stick out pretty far from the body.In Pa.,if you take a straight edge from the wheel well to the ground you should not be hitting any rubber. My mechanic(inspection guy)likes my Bronc.
so I pass w/o a hitch. There's a good pic. of it in my gallery.
