Need a quick answer

Good evening, gents, I don't believe I've ever been here before (sometimes to the 5th wheel towing) but I would appreciate a quick response.

A friend purchased a tt, 5-6K pounds loaded. His wdh bars didn't come in and he's wanting to depart tomorrow. I offered him my TV (details below) but he's afraid to run it without a WDH and sway bar.

His TV is a mid sized, rear wheel drive SUV (maybe a Highlander?).

Using my truck, I don't think it'd be necessary but have no proof to offer/console him.

Does anyone know the receiver hitch (2014 F250) specs to assure him he'll be OK?

The hitch should have a sticker on it that gives the allowable tongue weight with and without a w/d hitch. Typically, tongue weight is between 10-15% of the trailer weight.

With the truck you are offering him, I would have to say he wouldn't have any issues. My opinion.

Its too dark, not parked real close (and I've had a few drinks) to climb underneath it. I'm thinking its a class V hitch, rated for 1K pounds, but I could be wrong ... just ask my bride.

I routinely pull a 5-6k loaded enclosed utility trailer with my 1/2 ton pickup (max conventional tow capacity = 9,400 lbs) without a WDH. With F-250 you'll fine.

Well this is very discouraging; my fingernail and spit wouldn't clean this label, it required simple green and a brillo pad. I say discouraging because my old Honda RidgeLine also had a 600 pound tongue limitation.

Somewhat more capable if I drop the adapter and use a larger shank.

Lots of folks go over that amount with any WD setup, but it can result in some awfully spooky handling in turns or under braking. Sway can be better or worse, depends on the setup. If it was a short trip, I'd probably do it, but then again, I probably wouldn't recommend anyone else to do it.
