Intake manifold replacement question

Well I have the dreaded coolant leak under my intake and have been looking for a new intake manifold. My Expy is a 1998 with a 5.4 and a all aluminum manifold. My question is does this intake fail like the plastic ones and second the only one I can find for the 5.4 is $400.00. The ones for the 4.6 are half that amount. Will the one for a 4.6 fit on the 5.4?

Could it be the gaskets? I wouldn't think it would crack like the plastic intakes. But I have heard the gaskets can fail.

Its possible, I am going to tear into it this weekend and I will update with what I find..

It might just be the heater tube and not the intake. You can buy a new tube or you can repair it with heater hose and a couple of hose clamps.

to ruin those gaskets ,motor had to over heat ALOT....those gaskets are well made. ive seen both those motors completely apart several times.

It turned out to be the metal pipe that runs under the manifold but while I was taking off the intake I didn't realize there where two bolts way at the back by the fire wall and I ended up snapping off the ears on the manifold so I had too replace the intake with a junk yard one. She is up and running and runs really good. I also did plugs, boots and the PCV boot on the back of the manifold..Next up front heater core which could be just a daunting..
