Now that I have everything installed I need to set idle on the carb. What are my steps here?
1986 Ford Bronco with '79 LTD II 8 cylinder 302 engine. Edelbrock Performer 500 cfm electric choke carburetor with Edelbrock performer 2121 intake manifold.
What is the idle speed stated on the compliance sticker on the radiator support?
Automatic is usually in gear.
Manual in neutral.
Set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
I used to do automatics up against a concrete retaining wall.
Fully warm up the engine (like a 20 minute drive)
Remove the air cleaner and adjust the throttle stop.
If you really want to get into it, you would then adjust idle mixture for highest vacuum and then reset curb idle.
Back and forth until it wouldn't change, and then open the screws 1/8 turn and confirm the speed again.
I turned the mixture screws one at a time watching the RPM's (which fluctuate by about 15-20 at idle) and periodically adjusting idle speed and when it hit max RPM before going back down I stopped and did the other screw the same way. When it was at max RPM I then screwed them back flush counting the turns and backing them back out the same amount. They are backed out 2 5/8 turns out. Is that about right?
Do not know if this has anything to do with it, but the cam was replaced by previous owner and I found the receipt today. I will get back on what size and brand it is.
