Tried two distributors - a Carquest (new with new cap and rotor) that wouldn't even let me keep the truck going for timing and a remanufactured Cardone that worked on the 15 minutes to work but started failing (PIP) on the return ride. Put the old one back in and forgot about that as a possibility.
Two bad distributors basically right out of the box! What a bunch of crap!
Changed the EGR because of the 33 code and found it had a slight air leak. Code went away. Truck started better especially when the ambient temperature was around 55 degrees in the AM. Today with the ambient at 70+ degrees, it took a 5+ second crank followed by a second short crank to fire. My only thought is that there may be another slight vacuum leak in one of the myriad of hoses/devices. I'll check the lines with a vacuum gauge. Bottom line is that the length of time for cranking is definitely better and I haven't felt any engine misses yet.
