Hey guys, I need some help. I build a 400 back in 1988 and I used .030 over Perfect Circle #224-1310 pistons, cast replacement pistons for a 1971 400. They have the small dish, and yeild about a 9.2:1 compressiion ratio. I am freshening up the engine and I found one with a cracked skirt.
I only need one piston, but I can't find any new ones.
What else is available for replacement pistons with a reasonable compression ratio?
Is the 351c piston swap advisable?
Can the 400 rods be bushed for the 351 pin
size and still use a pressed pin?
I have found a machinist who would rather bore the 351 piston pin bores to the 400 pin size instead of bushing the rods and using a pressed pin. What do you guys think?

I recall someone here doing just that but I don't remember who it was and I don't recall if he got it running yet or not. Didn't seem to be a problem though.
If you are going to the expense of bushing 351c pistons to fit M rods I would consider custom units. J.E. forgings with a slight dish cut to your spec. deck height for about $400.00 as I recall.
