Hey guys. The newer fans I'm seeing at the j/y, from around 2010, have a sort of electrical box/control box, mounted on the shroud. Can someone tell me what it is, and can it be used w/o an automotive computer system.
These are nothing like any relay or relay block I have seen. I saw about 4-5 today, mounted on the fan shroud, gold, flat rectangle, about 3/4" thick, 4 inches long and about 3 inches wide. The wires to the fan run through them/it.

Hmm.. Interesting. Do you recall what vehicles on which they were observed?
'Might do a parts search and figure out what they call it.... then investigate their wiring system.
I pulled a radiator from a 2006 Crown Vic. I did a lazy search and found that the box is a variable speed control module relay. I havent messed with it yet as I am not at the point of using it.
A sidenote, The Vic has a coolant reservoir that is integrated with the shroud, which I thought was a cool idea. I don't have one and don't know if it would be useable or not, it looks as though it may sit a bit high.
