Have you pulled the plug and checked for corrosion on the terminals? Is the safety lock on the regulator still there?
I had a plug that vibrated loose and so the excite signal to charge would go away and not charge the batts. A new regulator solved that one!

Also check how loose the terminals are and engagement depth. Sometimes the harness side wedge lock breaks and allows the terminals to back out with vibration
I have replaced the plug twice, coming home last night we lost our lights, I held the plug and it started charging, held the plug for ten minutes and drove home, new altinator and plug
I had it at a shop getting the clutch replaced and the replaced the altinator, so I don't know if it was doing the same thing with the old altinator, I did splice the wires for the new plug I will solder today and see if that helps
