Need better braking, what do u run ?

I gotta 96 f250 powerstroke on 35s that I haul my horses with evey week. My brakes are all good and the brakes work great at high speeds but when I'm below 40 mph i just don't seem to feel much bite coming from the front, like it dosnt like to do that hard front end nose dive stop. Any ideas or reviews on brake set ups ?

I put slotted rotors on my 87 F250 and that seemed to help keep them from over heating, I don't think it stopped any faster. I usually had a Lance camper and 20' trailer with a Land Cruiser on it. I now have 93 F350 Crew Cab with a 12 valve Cummins i was thinking of doing the same and also looking into an exhaust brake, but the exhaust brakes are pretty pricy.

Ok yeah I'm looking for more of a bite feel. And yeah I wouldn't waist the money on a exhaust brake I had one on my old truck and it was O K but didn't really feel it,

Maybe the pads are glazed or were never bedded in proper, or the wrong material (aftermarket?).

I put Hawk pads / SSBC drilled slotted rotors on the front of my 89 F250, and premium brakes on the rear. So in heavy braking, He just breaks traction. Tires are stock size Michelins. So I at least know my brakes work. You might try a more aggressive pad.

Yeah my peddle dosnt feel like there's any air in the system and I'm running some semi metallic pads on normal rotors, and the hard pads machined there own surface on the rotors lol

Keeping up on the rear brake adjustments are key to having a solid pedal feel in these things. The fronts won't work until the rears are engaged...

assuming you don't have a sticky caliper or air in system, slotted and or drilled rotors are a solid upgrade....they provide a better pedal feel, especially in heavy stopping conditions, because the heat generates gasses that actually push back on the pad. The slotted or drilled rotors allow these gasses to escarpment and the pad to stay in contact with the rotor.

I stick with organic pads on slotted or drilled and slotted rotors. I don't feel like semi-metallic work as well and only wear the rotor more. I usually clean and adjust (if needed) my drum brakes every other oil change when I rotate the tires. How are the trailer brakes? It sounds like they are inop.

Yep my back drums are adjusted with new drums and pads, my trailer brakes work great but I don't have them set too strong with having horses in the back, just enough to feel them. My pads are pretty new and they stopped about the same since the day I put them on. What kind of rotors are a good bang for the buck ? Just seeing what others have tried and liked.
