Hot side CAC support

A few years ago I had my hot side tube blow off. At the connection between the short angled boot and the down tube. I had spare clamps and repaired it on the side of the road, and off we went. Has not blown off again, and I've got new boots since then too.

But now it is looking sketchy, and the aluminum tube is leaning over against the oil fill cap on the valve cover. I need to redo that connection at a minimum. I know the tricks of cleaning all oil, hairspray, etc.

But I seem to recall there used to be a little support bracket offered for sale. I think it used the alternator bolts, and somehow extended over and kept the pipe pulled over. Anyone remember that? Seen it for sale recently? Other ideas? I might just go for a Riffraff boot, but would consider something in addition to that. I always thought that was a long heavy pipe to just be hanging on a boot.

I've never seen it for sale but I've seen people making a bracket installed off the alternator mount to prevent it from hurting the hood. Home Depot meal strap, a hammer, a vice and a drill with bit can get you there.

Thanks Jack. I started googling around and found one source. CAC Tube Brace - TCN Enterprises

I'm posting his link as the butt of a joke. You'd have to be nuts to pay $50 for that thing.

I found much better homade ideas on the various forums. Someone did a carbon fiber one a few years ago that was a thing of beauty.

But I don't think I am going to add a support, at least for now. I pulled the tube this morning, cleaned it up with alcohol, buttered it up with Permatex Aviation dope, and put it back together. Added a heavy tie-wrap over to a convenient hole on the alternator. I feel pretty good that it is going to stay put. The boot looked good.

This was the one I thought looked the most professional. Correct two dimensional angle for the clamp to bolt to and a radius at the end of the bracket. The problem with any hard mounting of the CAC tube is the movement of the motor will cause some changes at both boots, and hard mounted puts all the movement now at the bottom. Although there is one out there with double Heim joints.......

I've never had a boot blow off on the 6.0, and just once on the 7.3.

Jack, that really looks good. Is it adjustable? Are you willing to share your materials list?

That $50 is for the over the top overkill engineering.

Ed, that wasn't mine but from another forum 2-3 years ago.

Edit: Googled and found it over at the org.

http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/6-0...ube-brace.html

The clamp itself appears to be an Accuseal branded unit from the design. The bracket, those could be made very easily.

Edit again: I may make one of these after thinking about it considering the Leece-Neville alternator I have sitting in front of this CAC tube.

Thanks Jack, I think I got it. Although I have never had a CAC hose blow off on either truck.
BTW, almost finished with the battery cable upgrades on both trucks. I will post some pics when completed.

I've had to put everything truck to the side trying to get back to some progress on the farm while getting the shoulders and ankles working again.

I've had the CAC blow off two 6.0's. I like the clamp idea, think a 1/4" bigger clamp will allow some flex.
