Decisions,Decisions........

Wife found a smokin' deal on a 38' Jayco 5er center living room. Only problem is a F 250 isn't going to cut the mustard in my book towing it. Was talking to a friend and he knows where there a KR F 450 duelley with a bad motor he said was super clean. Wife said the other trucks go first and she's right. It's a big expense. Let's face it maintenance on these trucks is big bucks. To convert my truck to a fully is more work that I want to do,plus the other truck is all setup for a 5er. I got to check this rig out and then make the choice. It going to be tuff,Ive put a lot of time and effort into my trucks. There is a good side to this thou. I'll have the funds to make a KILLER tow rig. Maybe even do that stroker motor from the guy in Kentucky, but like I said, it's a lot of work........again.

Year and engine? For some reason I thought that the F-450 was C&C only up until 2008 and didn't come in the King Ranch trim until 2008.

F450 was indeed chassis cab prior to 2008. Though some people put pickup beds on them. I know you could get a Lariat trim chassis cab, so I'd guess King Ranch as well...maybe.

2008-2010 F450 pickup with 6.4 is a BEAST of a tow vehicle. I miss mine at times, but I love the Excursion I sold it for way more. Especially since I don't tow heavy anymore.

Check the bed height to make sure you have enough clearance to tow the fiver level first.

Well the truck was a bomb in the mechinal end. Real clean body and interior, but man, I'm getting tried if wrenching on my own stuff. Defiantly needed a motor, mayve a trans judging from the fluids, brakes and front end work....... I stopped looking there. I saw a bully dog tuner and that was the end. As far as the 5er goes,I slope with a friend that down grades in size and asked why. His reason was ease of getting camp sites. To quote him ,some camo site where a pain to get into and not enough room to drop the TV when we wanted to see the sights. Plus the load on the truck and fuel costs. I can see that. He said they probably want to get rid of it because of lack of interest just for that reason........Ever onward!

On the F450 I have heard some states classify them as commercial vehicles and the licensing and MOSTLY insurance go WAY up. Might want to check this put in your state before you commit.

They did that with my 350 in Md because of its weight. Finally fought enough and they dropped it

I had the commercial registration problem when I had a F350. They tried to tell me that if I towed anything, including a camper it would be considered commercial activity. I happened to read up on the law before I got it registered when they said that and pointed out to them that I was not engaged in commercial activity for profit and towing a personal trailer for personal use is not commercial activity. Handed the lady the highlighted sub section of the code and said I will take my passenger vehicle tag.

Did she growl back at you for not letting her have that extra money?

I talked to someone and found that there are some odd exceptions
to when you have to have a CDL and the commercial tags. From what
I got out of it the laws can be clear as muddy runoff.

On an other note. Anthony did something I thought was very smart.
His ICC MC numbers were on a display plate that he could remove
when running empty. Seems like a good idea. Noting like A Barney
Fife that does not have a clue but thinks he does pulling you over to
check things out.
That is my take on it anyway. You might ask Anthony about his thoughts on it.
