2000 Explorer blower issue
Thursday eve last week I got in my Explorer to run to K-Mart real quick. Blower would not come on. I could hear the a/c compressor kick on when I turned it to a/c tho so I was certain the blower went out. (I have had this explorer since Nov 2011 and have never had any issues with it prior.) (Drove 20 min to work 7:30 and then same home at 4;30. Temps not any hotter than they had been any other day this summer. It was 8:00 or so when going to K-Mart.) Friday morning got in to go to work and it worked just fine like nothing had happened. Worked all day Friday with no issues. (Same time frame of driving to and from work and then drove total of 3.5 hours leaving at 10 pm.) Saturday started it up around 1:30 in the afternoon and it worked great all day (was moving my daughter so a few starts and stops of the engine but never turned the **** on the a/c) until about 7 and then it quit again. Sunday started the truck about 1:00 and it worked fine all day without issue.
When it works it has no issue at all. It is just it either works completely or not at all. After the first time it stopped working I didn't turn it off from a/c in fear it was the switch in some capacity but when it is working fine I switched it from a/c to high a/c to see if it did anything and it worked fine.
So, my point is I can find no consistent reason for it to stop working. Truck has just over 149k miles. So I am aware it is old. I just need it to last a lil longer. lol
For starters, please confirm that your Explorer has the manual (aka: ****) climate controls versus the electronic (digital readout) automatic climate control.
You'll want to locate the connector for the blower motor and, when the blower is not working, probe the wires and confirm you have power to the blower motor as evidenced by the test light illuminating. If you have power, then the issue is most likely the blower motor.
If you do not have power, try a few different fan settings, both low and the highest. If you do not have power on any of the settings, then the issue is likely with the wiring or the blower motor resistor. Typically the resistor is bypassed when the highest blower setting is selected though, although I haven't pulled the wiring diagram for the 2000 to confirm that's the case. If the blower works on the highest setting but not the lower setting, the issue is likely the blower motor resistor or the electrical connector to the blower motor. If there is no power on any of the speeds, then it may be a loose fuse or other loose electrical connector.
