Help with frame compatibility

I recently purchased a 1984 F250 but unfortunately it didn't come with a trailer hitch receiver. Instead of purchasing a new one I was trying to grab one from a parts truck. I know that '80-'86 shared the same frames, but can I look at later year models and still have it be a bolt on (no frame tweeting or spare tire relocation) upgrade ?

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

If you know who makes the receiver you can go to their website and look at both year trucks and see if they use the same part numbers for the receiver.
If you don’t know the maker try different receiver sites and see if the same part numbers are used on each truck.
You might then see if the spare tire can stay or not. If you see a spare tire or mounts on the JY one then you might be able to keep the spare there.

I found a receiver on CL and they listed the maker & model number, Reese # 37096 multi fit . I was able to go to their site and found it would fit my truck.
I was then also able to find install papers.
BTW guess what I am going out to do now that I just printed out the install papers Spare has to come down for install only, then put back in place.

ps: you can measure your frame side to side and front to back then use that at the junk yards.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I found one at the local JY from a '91, appears to be a factory installed unit. I will go back and measure the frame rail width and see how close it actually is.

Good luck with your install, it's way to freaking hit here today, but I may go back and snag the receiver and measure later.

I went out to my garage that I opened earlier and it was 96*+ yep too damn hot so closed everything up turned off the lights and called it a day.
Maybe tomorrow at 3am, my normal get up time for work, I will head out and see what I can do.

Let us know how you make out with the receiver.

If this coming winter is anything like the last, first winter I have been down here, I can live with it.
Got the trucks here Dec 1 and did most of the work pulling the project 1 apart buy end of Jan.

Oh and you can keep the white stuff out there!
