That's a good read... The one thing that makes me scratch my head and wonder a little is the authors description of the Adaptive Steering. I have seen the video and it looks pretty cool,... but the "nebulous" comment makes me wonder how much I would like it in everyday driving, and not the backing up in a tight spot.
Thoughts?

I haven't driven any of the new trucks yet, so I'm hoping I don't regret this, but I personally passed on it. Ordered an XLT and skipped the driver assistance package. I can turn my own high beams and wipers on, not a fan of the adaptive cruise control especially when towing, and I figure I've been able to park just fine without it.
According to Ford it's supposed to be easy to back at low speeds and "fun to drive" so more responsive at highway speeds. I am looking forward to trying it. Since my new truck has it as part of the technology package I had better like it. I think I read that if it failed you would still have steering so I would assume I could pull a fuse or wire and disable it.
Keep in mind this was published back in April and the pages are all marked "preliminary." The figures probably won't change by much if at all, but it is still a possibility.

I didn't order it either. It may work great, but I'm fine with the current feel and operation of the steering system. Very predictable, reasonable level of assist. My arms don't get "tired" from doing a lot of low-speed backing up maneuvers. This steering system sounds an awful lot like Audi "ServoTronic" back on the early A8 cars. Most owners disabled it because they preferred the natural steering feel.
From the Jalopnik article (specs) I notice that an F-350, diesel, DRW, 4x4, C/Cab, Long box, with 14,000 GVWR that the max payload is 5820 lbs.
Then I go to the Ford website and notice the exact same configuration (only difference is the 172 in w/b versus 176 in w/b for the 2017) has a max payload of 6,460 lbs.
