2006 steering box?
Could you take a 2006 inner tie rod to a machine shop and have the 1" threads cut onto it just down from the steering stabilizer mount hole and attach directly to the Excursion outer tie rod?
I know that turns lock to lock are a lot less on the newer box, does anyone know if the angular travel of both boxes are the same?
This would be a sort of hybrid steering between the original 2005 Excursion and the redesigned 2005/6/7 F-250. Overall turning radius would be unchanged but the parking garage handling would be better. It would also be one of the tasks already done if doing a coil swap was in your future.
Thoughts?
Use your existing pitman arm and TRE. If the sector shaft diameter is larger or a different spline count have yours machines to fit.
Seems the 06 gear/pitman would be setup to turn sharper with coils since there are no leaf springs to rub on.
