Looking at two different 6.0

Hey guys I currently am part of the 7.3 side of this forum and am looking at buying a 6.0 but I am looking at two different ones right now.

The first one is a 2005 f350 crew cab lariat it has
194,679 miles on it
New transmission in 2013
2 new batteries and a new alternator
Air bags in the back they towed a fifth wheel camper with it and it spent it's winters in Arizona.
This one was owed by an older couple and the husband just recently passed away and the wife can't drive the truck so the kids are selling it for her.

Truck two is a 2006 f250 xlt it has 215,000 miles on it
Has an s and b intake
8 new injectors
H and s tuning
New ficm
New ipr valve
4" turbo back exhaust
It was stated that right after they bought the truck they bought all new injectors ran for 10k no problem tuned it and the ipr stuck and threw the #4 injector. Fixed that and has ran it for 8k with no problems

Now both truck are around 13k in price any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated and both trucks have been serviced ever 5k

Thank in advance for the input

Is either engine studded? Can you do your own engine work? The new transmission is worth more than the injectors. Personally, I think that both are asking too much.

No they are not studded. Yes I can do my own engine work I am pretty mechanically inclined. What do you think that a reasonable offer would be for them?

I guess I'm partial. I like stock, well maintained trucks minus tuning. Tuning gets my mind wondering how the truck was treated.

I feel the same way honestly. that's one reason I like the one with the air bags and what not. cause it is all stock and was owned by and elderly couple that used it to tow there fifth wheel to Arizona every winter. When something went wrong it was taken to the shop to get fixed and it also has a newer transmission.

I think you answered your own question. Just make sure that all filters are OEM and changed on schedule with approved fluids.

If you want a complete guaranty my advice is to buy a new vehicle with a full warranty. JMHO, seems like your looking for a guaranteed used vehicle. Not going to happen.

No I'm not looking for the guarantee just the hesitation of jumping to a new engine platform I guess you can say

Since you are mechanically inclined, You shouldn't worry too much. With this site. we can guide you through any trouble. They really are not that difficult to work on. Use good parts and it should last a long time. Watch a bunch of 6.0 videos on youtube and you should feel like an expert.

VERY well said. I was hesitant too, of jumping ship from my 2007 6.0 which never gave me ANY problems, to my 2016 6.7. But now after one year of ownership of my new 6.7, I have no regrets SO FAR.

The question you need to ask yourself now, is HOW MUCH hesitation you have of jumping to a different engine platform outside of your familiarity? Asking the kind of questions you have thus far, leads me to believe you are uncomfortable with going into a 6.0L platform (the newest of which is now ten model years old). No one here (myself included) has a crystal ball to tell you if the truck you choose is going to break, shortly after you buy it. But if you do decide to pull the trigger, read through thoroughly on what to look out for, and make your decision based on that. EXPECT to spend some dollars (after all these trucks aren't "new" anymore) post purchase, and you will likely not be disappointed. Failing that, you're better off finding yourself another 7.3 to play with, if you can find one in decent enough shape at a fair price that is.

See the BOLD and LARGER PRINT above

2005 model:

Why have the alternator and batteries been replaced?

What is the health of FICM? Is it between 48-46 volts?

2006 model:

There are many items here that would make me steer clear of this truck. But I am also one of those guys that like a stock truck.

Why is the intake NOT stock? They are rated up to 500 HP.
I do NOT trust tuned/modded trucks, what HP rating has been used on the H&S tuner.

Why was the FICM replaced? Which begs to ask:

What is the health of the alternator? (needs to be bench tested)

What is the health of batteries? (need to be load tested when they are cold)

I too agree that the price is a little steep on these trucks.

Too many questions need to answered before a true number can be thrown out.

You need to aquire or purchase a live data scanner to assess the condition of these trucks or any 6oh you plan to purchase.

I wouldn't take anybodies word on the maintenance with out proof of work completed.

Good luck!

I myself do like to get something stock when I buy it. I agree with paper talks when it comes to service record and any work for that matter. I have on obd2 Bluetooth scanner with torque pro for a scanner and live data logging. I was reading that when you do gaskets and head studs you have to send the heads to get machined because from the factory they weren't flat is that true as a must do? I don't mind doing the work but I found it interesting just thought I'd ask since I know there is good info with lots of knowledgeable people. To do an oil pan gasket is it like the 7.3 where you have to remove the engine to change the gasket? I have tons of questions about the 6oh I like them honestly but I think the questions I have and what not is what is holding me back from them. But I do think that I am going to get one for my next truck but what are the normal price ranges that I should look for I know miles and condition and all the other things that come into play when it comes to price. I just want to be as prepared as much as I can when I do finally dive in on one. I will be posting back here when I find something to get everyone's opinion on it and what not about it all and what to look at along with pictures to help with a price and everything else.
