I've just purchased a new (to me) 2013 E150 "Executive Limo" van. It's a raised roof long body passenger van with some nice extras. It's not as plush as my 2000 Regency E250 conversion, but it has enough seats and seat belts for all the children and grandchildren--that was the goal!
It's a used vehicle, limo service usage, so there are some things to tidy up. One of the most annoying is the passenger door. It makes a grating, popping noise when opening and closing. I've shot the little roller as full of white grease as I can get in it, which has helped, but not stopped the "pop".
I ran a search on "popping door hinge" and came up empty. With as many of these vehicles as there are on the road, there's got to be an easy fix for this, right?
Please fill me in on the fix!
Thanks in advance! I'll post pics inside and out as we "fix er up".
The only place I've heard of that description is when the outer door skin is popping against the front fender. Stand by the mirror and open the door and see if the two pieces of the body are rubbing and making the pop noise.
hinges usual have a spring loaded detent lever that keeps the door from moving, or closing when it's open. I would say that might be the cause of the noise, possibly the hinge is sprung from it being flung open too many times.
It's not the door binding on the fender. The e series vans don't have the lever, it's a small roller on a spindle in the lower hinge. The door does not appear to be sprung. I know what's making the noise, I'm trying to find a way to stop it......
