My throttle response isn't there like it use to be have to feather the pedal then at faster speeds you don't notice it I've got a 302 edelbrock intake and carb little 650 on it wondering if there's a filter in the tank before I drop it down as my starting point also can smell gas when it sits and idles and help at this point would be fantastic. Thanks for letting g me join the group I spent all day reading others posts and learned a lot of stuff a pile of knowledge in This group great job
This is my baby just got done her about a month ago now all back together original Kms on it 3995km when I bought it five years ago now it's got 14000kms never seen snow and never will.
Welcome to FTE, lots of good knowledgeable people here.
It sounds to me more like a carb problem than anything else.
The having to feather the throttle sounds like an accelerator pump or possibly a vacuum leak issue and the gas smell at idle could be the idle circuit is too rich.
I'm not all that familiar with Edelbrock carbs (I like Holleys) so I'll let someone else give you more direction but my guess is there's a carb rebuild in your future.

I'll be pricing out a carb kit today guess it doesn't hurt to have it refreshed anyways just another thing I dont have to worry about
Also order up enough hose to replace all the vacuum lines thanks again mike
While you're pricing carb rebuild kit, check out prices on a Holley fuel pressure regulator. Edelbrock carbs don't like more than 5.5 psi. Could be fuel is bypassing the float needle and emptying into the carb causing a too "rich" a mixture.
Check the floats before the rebuild....if you're going that way. I would put a regulator on first and go from there.
My opinion - I think a 650 cfm carb is too big for a 302....even if it's built up a bit.
Thank you a fuel regulator is a very good idea to have

Yes, welcome...and nice buggy!
It wouldn't surprise me if there's something stuck making my floats not properly work I will install the regulator before I pull it all apart and try it first But I'll still order a kit to have on hand as there only 40 bucks thanks a lot Flithy Beast she's my pride and go a lot of blood sweat and beers to get it where it is today cheers
