Need help! High idle

I have a 79 f150 with a 300 straight 6 and yesterday it started idling really high 2000-2500 I backed off the idler screw and it changed nothing. Would it be a bad gasket or something sticking in the carb?

Check your accelerator linkage/springs/cable from the pedal to carb. Maybe something got boogered up/twisted/broke in that line.

Make sure no vacuum lines are cracked or split around the carb...automatic or manual choke? Either way make sure its functioning properly.

High idle with no effect from idle screws is pretty indicative of a vacuum leak somewhere.

Just be thorough and check/replace all vacuum hoses first then move on to more subtle spots like carb/intake gaskets, etc.
