I'm using dual flex antennas made by diesel. permenatly mounted to a alumiunm tool box. don't know what to think of them 2nd time around with a cb I did every thing for under 60 dollars last time with magnet antenna. It sounds better but jus wanted to know what everyone else used and how good they work?

Duals are very hard to tune properly on a pickup truck. You'd probably do better with a single antenna. If it's on your toolbox, run a wire from the bracket the antenna mounts to down to the chassis of the truck. (I ran mine between the bed and cab so you couldn't see it). Then tune it with a SWR meter and it'll do great.

Wilson antennas are the best I've used. The worst were the RadioShack glassmount antennas.

While duals may look good on your truck you are much better off with a single good antenna like WXBoy said. Wilson doees make a really fine product so does k-40. Another important aspect is the length of your coax. It should be 18' in length. Definately make sure your SWR is sert for optimum performance. Also get a good external speaker and a good noise cancelling mic. Road King and Astatic are probably the best mics out there. I personally prefer Astatics. Any decent CB shop (most truck stops have one) should be able to sell you what you need and also set up your radio.

whats with eighteen feet can you have a little more. I would have to coil it up to make it work. My radio jack sits under my seat for the antennas thats why I don't have enough room for eighteen feet. I have a cobra 75wxst cb radio I can't change the mic it has all the controls on it. I have ground one side and am getting 12.75 volts at the antennas mounts and going off the fuse box. I don't understand how to tune my anteenas they seat two and half feet above my cab and are 9 foot in the air total. I got the antennas as a kit from a friend for free I really don't don't want to waste what I got but they look to be nonadjustable, there is no screw at the top under the caps

For the Cobra 75, I would just run one antenna instead of duals (I would for any CB actually). If you stop by a Flying J or any truck stop, get a Francis 5x5. They are probably one of the best antennas you can run for a regularly powered setup.

The 18 feet of coax will help tune your radio better. 18 feet is the set length because of the siganls wavelength to and from your radio...

it all depends on what kind of radio you're running too. I have one of the newest cobra CB radios that makes things supre easy to tune the SWR on my antennas. Also don't be cheap when it comes to reception , the antennas from the local truck stop are great for shallow reception , but if you're realy serious go all out and by some tunable firestik fiberglass whips , they look great as duals (that's what I have) and just to be safe run a 16 gauge wire with both of them and ground it to your radio. You can always trim the coax cable too , a simple 25 cent adapter from radio shack makes things a snap.

i prefer the firesticks also. great antenna and doesn't flap as much as a K40. Never coil your coax either. You have to keep it bundled on itself for better reception. Also, with two antennas in cophase, you need RG59, not RG58, so make sure. I prefer mini8 clear copper which gives you the best signal
