Replacement Stereo

Alright everybody, a lot of you know about my 2011 being totaled out, and that we did finally replace that truck with a 2013. For the most part the 2013 and the 2011 were loaded about the same. The big gain in the 2013, is I have another 4x4 now.
But, the only thing that I'm really missing from the 2011 is the factory XM/Sirius that was in the 2011. I still have an aftermarket XM/Sirius receiver that for some reason I haven't thrown away, even after it being in my tool box for nearly the last 5 years.
But I don't like the look of an aftermarket item inside the cab. I can hide the wires alright, but it's going to have to be fastened someplace that I can see it and get to it.
Oh, buy the way... I'm cheap To go out and drop another $500 for a stero just to have satellite won't happen. There are other things that I could do with $500.
The factory stereo really sounds pretty nice, with the MP3, and it does have Sync. I'd pass on the truck with that SYNC thing. It'll ruin you for ever. I also have the controls in the steering wheel, and it looks like that is another wiring harness to keep that, that I like it!
Ok, enough
Beer frame!

Would it work to mount it in the overhead console drop down glasses holder door? Maybe modify the opening to see the unit better when open. I still have a unit like that. It sits in the garage waiting for a need for using it.

Hey Pete, I too had an older Satelite receiver that it at least 15 years old. Yeah, I don't get rid of things. But I did find it, and found a place that I could put it, in the truck that would look nice. But the receiver has a dial to turn, to change channels. And when i turned that dial, it broke a came out in my hands. Now it's in the trash.
Sirius offered me a free receiver, but the person I was talking to, and I had a language issue, if you get my drift, so I'll call again today and see if I can get a person that I understand.

Maybe you could get a stock head unit out of another truck with the satellite features. The one in my 2013 has satellite and navigation. The navigation sucks.

My stock stereo has a button for Sirius. But it says not equiped or something like that when I push the button. I'm wondering if there is an adaptor that i can plug into the back of the stock stereo, to ad Sirius

Called a local stereo shop that we've used a few times. And for a new stereo with the blue tooth, sync, sirius, face plate adapter, wire harness to work with steering wheel controls, is almost $1000.
So, needless to say, I'm keeping my stock stuff, and ad a remote receiver.

To get Sirius to work you need the SCC1 universal tuner and an iSimple media gateway.

Is this something that you've done before
My factory stereo in the 2013 F150 we just bought, has a button for Satelite, but the truck/stereo isn't equipt for it. There no antenna in top of the cab. I basically don't know what I'm looking at. Other option is a dash mounted receiver, and I don't like the way it looks.

My stock stereo.... If it IS, Satelite ready, and just needs that box, then that's the way to go.
Just noticed the date is wrong.....only by 3 weeks, and 4 years.....

I appreciate the info, but I'm way too cheap for that.
Look like I'll end up getting one of those aftermarket receivers.

You think you can get an aftermarket head unit to fit that hole for less than that $329? Or you mean just one of the add on receivers for XM? I'm about to turn off an XM receiver and would be willing to sell it if you're interested.

Actually should say thanks for reminding me to turn that one off. It's a portable receiver that fits in a cradle in your vehicle and I also have a cradle for it to use it in your house. That way you only need one subscription. PM me if you're interested and I can send you some pictures or model numbers.

And SiriusXM isn't worth it. I am about to dump mine. The thing that pisses me off the most besides the constant repeats due to a small playlist is that the two companies never combined their networks. So your radio is either on the Sirius network or the XM network.

This sucks because the availability of channels for the Select packages(unless you get the all access of course) are different. My OEM radio was on Sirius and I had the Select package which included NFL radio and Howard Stern. My new radio is on the XM network and the package is called Select as well but doesn't include NFL or Howard Stern.

Not sure why it's upside down

Those channels are still available as far as I know. Here's a picture of the receiver.
