Why should i keep my 95 bronco? I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 that my dad is going to give me and i really love the wa it looks. My truck is far from being in that good of shape. What are the pros and cons of the ram? Whats the comparison between the two. Oh yea the ram is a black 2dr sport with the engine rebuilt 1500 miles ago and has the 5.9l. what should i do?
Why keep it? How about cause they dont make em anymore. We are talking classic here. Just give it time. How about cause the Bronco will have a better approach and departure angle for 4 wheeling. The bronco has a real back seat so you can thrill more friends when you go off roading. The bronco has the weight distributed more evenly so it gets better traction than a pickup. Shall I go on? Oh yea...the bronco will prolly outlast the dodge anyway...hehe.
It is illegal in all 50 states to trade a Bronco for a Dodge. Bronco's are one of a kind. They are cool. They have personality. Dodge Rams? They are EVERYWHERE! Yuck. Pit-tooy. I would rather drive a Pacer than a Ram.
To be completely honest with you - if your Bronco is in bad shape, and the Dodge is nice and has a new engine, I'd take the Dodge. I know that everone on this board will hate me for a while for saying this, but they'll get over it. However, one question: is the Dodge a 4X4? If not, than that is a good reason the keep the Bronco as well and fix it.
For me, this page followed my getting a Bronco. I found the page because I had so many problems with the Bronc, and needed a resource. Broncos are high maintenance vehicles. I am of the opinion that Ford cut a lot of corners and made some poor engineering decisions with the Bronco (see the A4OD thread for one example). I always liked Broncos; however I also liked K5 Blazers. At the time that I purchased my Bronco, I was looking for a full sized 4WD vehicle that seemed decent and was under about $6,000, and had under 100K miles. In Florida, where I lived at the time, , 4WD vehicles are at a premium because there aren't so many, and go for higher prices. When I found the clean, 2 owner 1990 Bronco with 89K and talked the seller down to $4,000, I figured that a clean vehicle like this with relatively low mileage would give me quite a while of realitvely trouble-free service. I was wrong. I have spent boatloads of money on this thing to keep it running properly. It is in the shop right now, an exhaust manifold stud just broke off while I was driving, for no reason, now I have an exhaust leak. Broncos seem to have stupid things happen to them that most vehicles don't.
I DO like the Bronco, in theory. It's a cool truck. It has power everything, AC, and is comfortable. It looks good too. But it's like a trophy wife, very high maintenance. If you just want a vehicle that you van drive for a while, and do routine maintenance on, and not have to spend your whole paycheck repairing (December 2001, the Bronco took ALL FOUR of my paychecks), then take the Ram. If you want the Bronc, be prepared for down time and loss of cash.
My brother-in-law has a '97 Dodge 4x4 sport, Man it looks good. AND has a killer sound system. However, the truth is it is in his shop 'cause his front axle bearings are gone, also it leaks oil like a fish cooker adding ice to it................. and he has always treated it like a baby.
I drive all my broncos harder than he'll ever drive his Dodge and I have not had the repairs that he has had. (the list is longer) O - one '79 of mine i've jumped stumps, curbs, sand dunes and been in mud where you could not even open the doors with over 20 years of it so I must be good at knocking on wood or something.
Oh, just remembered, you SHOULD buy the dodge - 'cause $$ is not an issue.
I've come to the conclusion, after owning 30+ vehicles, that no one brand is better than another. You could have a trouble-free Ford and a crappy Dodge, and say that Fords are the best. But in truth, there are good individual vehicles and bad ones. Some go forever and need nothing, and some are lemons, and it has nothing to do with the manufacturer. I even knew a guy who got a Yugo for 50 bucks, and it started every day and the AC even worked. So choose the better vehicle. In my opinion though, Broncos as a whole have some poor engineering, and are higher maintenance vehicles than others. But I had a 1966 F100 that I paid 100 bucks for, and aside from 2 qts a week in oil that it leaked from the rear main, it never needed anything and started when buried under snow and new cars would not. I think it had several hundred thousand miles on it. So you can draw your own conclusions.
I don't wanna touch the "money is no object" thing, but if that's true, go ahead and keep the Bronco!
I say keep the bronco, looks aren't everything it's the way it runs. Look at it this way, the motor has alredy been replaced in this thing, i'm sure you guys have seen your share of electrical issues with this thing and if I remember right the trannys have had some problems. One last thing, chryslers are firetraps. A friend of mine who has the 94 dakota couldn't even get fire coverage for his truck becuase it was so fire prone.
So, play it safe hold onto the bronco and once in a while give it a little lovin. When you need it it will give it back.
JBronco,
I concur somewhat....... I guess if the truck was manufactured on a monday or a friday, you could get a lemon - what ever brand you buy.
My ford's must have been built (ford tough) on a wednesday, and the dodge and chevy i own must have been built on a monday.......Can't believe I admited to owning a dodge and chevy on the FTE
I find it amazing how the words flow "I've come to the conclusion, after owning 30+ vehicles, that no one brand is better than another. You could have a trouble-free Ford and a crappy Dodge" THAT some how the TROUBLE-FREE and the CRAPPY fell inline with the manufacturer.
JMO and having fun - LONG LIVE THE BRONCO
OK enough high jacking the thread - I'm outta here (gonna listen to my chevy rust)
"So, play it safe hold onto the bronco and once in a while give it a little lovin. When you need it it will give it back."
I don't want to get anti-Bronco here, but in regards to the above statement, I have gone above and beyond in showing my Bronc a little lovin, doing much preventative maintenance and such, and it has screwed me in return. So I guess it is even more like a woman than I thought! But I still have it. Once it is out of the shop this time, I hope and PRAY for a break, perhaps 20,000 trouble free miles? Is that too much to ask, other than regular maintenance?
