Order Help Please

I am going to order a new 2017 platinum next week at my dealership and I have several questions before doing so.
2017 F-350 Short wheel base crew can platinum

1) How do I place an order? Build my truck online, print it off and bring it to my dealer to order?

2) What price should I expect? Invoice Price or below invoice? I live in Houston so there are several ford dealers, so if a ford dealer is unwilling to give me a fair deal i will go to the next one

3) How do I need to ask the dealer to order my vehicle? Dealer stock? Customer order? In order to get my truck the fastest…..I would love to have it by the end of august, but atleast by the end of September

4) How does handling your trade in work on orders? do you agree on a price, and as long as you don't get in a wreck or go over an agreed up mileage the price will be valid at the time of delivery?

5) Which rear axle do I chose? I will be pulling a 5th wheel rv maybe once a month. Other than that I wont be pulling much else. I was thinking the 3.55 electronic locking axle? Thoughts? I was thinking this axle because I figure I might get the FX4 package…im never taking it offroading, but spending this much money I might as well get all the options?

6) I want the most payload possible due to pulling a 5th wheel, so I want the 11,400 GVWR correct?

7) Heavy duty front suspension package – what does this do for me if I select this?

8) 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch prep – since I am towing a 5th wheel should I get this, or have it done aftermarket? – with this 5th wheel prep, what 5th wheel hitches am I limited to?

9) Is there any reason I would need dual alternators/heavy duty? Wouldn’t this just add more maintenance or possible issues for me?

10) I am getting the box link which by the picture it looks like it comes with a light….then there is another option for LED box lighting? What is the difference?

11) Rear chmsl camera – I want this camera so when I am hooking up to my 5th wheel I can see what is going on….but when I go to add it it says I have to remove platinum ultimate package, moonroof, and adaptive cruise control

12) Tough bed spray in bed liner – couple questions for this option 1) does it work ok with the 5th wheel hitch/prep 2) I am going to get a sliding or folding bed cover…is there any issues with installing a bed cover and having a bed liner?

1) you can build it online and take a printout. Would be the easiest
2) price - you can certainly negotiate or join one of the organizations and get a X plan price. EAA is one such organization

3) if you want it that fast then have the dealer look for a truck that's built or soon to be built. Retail is the way to go now rather than dealer stock
4) you can negotiate a price based on estimate mileage.

5) Yes, the 3.55 E-locker is the way to go for sure for your needs. FX4 isn't necessary even if you off road it. You're paying for the decal and skid plates. The shocks still suck.

6) No, don't select a reduced payload package. The standard will be 11,500. All the options you have to click on are reduced ones.

7) If you're not going to plow snow, I wouldn't bother with the heavy duty front suspension package.

8) I ordered the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep on mine just in case I ever want to tow one of those. Buy the Reece 5th wheel hitch aftermarket, but get the prep kit through the factory.

9) Only if you plan to run lots of accessory stuff. In alaska they automatically come with the dual heavy duty, a block heater, and the rapid cab supplemental heater.

10) No idea

11) You are getting the camera with the platinum ultimate package already.

12) Yes the toughbed works great with the hitch prep kit. It works great with bed covers.

thanks for your feedback.

Does the spray in liner work with aftermarket bed covers though? Will it get in the way of me installing a rolling or folding bed cover

Are there any disadvantages of having dual heavy duty alternators? I cant imagine I would ever be running that much power, but for only $200 it seems like a minor add....

Curious if I should just get it anyways for that "just incase" scenario.....but if there are some downfalls then I don't need it...

Is Reece the only 5th wheel hitch that works with the factory 5th wheel prep kit?

2017 F-350 Short wheel base crew can platinum

1) How do I place an order? Build my truck online, print it off and bring it to my dealer to order?
That's the best thing to do, some things may change when you get in there but at least you'll know what options you want.

2) What price should I expect? Invoice Price or below invoice? I live in Houston so there are several ford dealers, so if a ford dealer is unwilling to give m a fair deal i will go to the next one

I always negotiate below invoice they have a percentage they can go below that and they know it. To me they can take a few percent on a quick sale or not.

3) How do I need to ask the dealer to order my vehicle? Dealer stock? Customer order? In order to get my truck the fastest…..I would love to have it by the end of august, but atleast by the end of September
With all the orders that have been made already I wouldn't expect a 6 week turn around ask the dealer what's best

4) How does handling your trade in work on orders? do you agree on a price, and as long as you don't get in a wreck or go over an agreed up mileage the price will be valid at the time of delivery?

Pretty much, negotiate the trade in separate of the purchase.

Get the 3.55 E locker, you don't NEED the skid plates but I always get them

6) I want the most payload possible due to pulling a 5th wheel, so I want the 11,400 GVWR correct?

You don't want to select any GVWR, let it come from the factory with the default.

Yes, get the factory prep but do not get the hitch, buy the actuall hitch aftermarket. a few companies offer the hithces that are used. Curt, B&W, Reese, Etc

9) Is there any reason I would need dual alternators/heavy duty? Wouldn’t this just add more maintenance or possible issues for me?

No need whatsoever to get dual alternators if you wont be running alot of things. Get the single heavy duty if you want some wiggle room.

12) Tough bed spray in bed liner – couple questions for this option 1) does it work ok with the 5th wheel hitch/prep 2) I am going to get a sliding or folding bed cover…is there any issues with installing a bed cover and having a bed liner?

I'd get an aftermarket one with lifetime warranty, that's just me

I am sure its better...but getting it from the factory "hides" the cost from the wife....so when I go to get aftermarket stuff (hitch, bed cover...ect...) she doesn't complain to much haha

But I think with the 5th wheel hitch prep, I would rather get the factory spray in liner anyways so its a clean look (it might look clean either way, but I would think they drill the holes for the 5th wheel prep, spray the liner, then install the pucks for the best and cleanest look)

I've had a few trucks for towing fifth wheels. I recommend the 350 (already picked that) long bed. You don't have to worry about any slides or precautions with a short bed. I use a low profile tool box that sits inside the bed for generators and a compressor. I have a roll up bed cover (truxedo) that hides everything when not towing. I know some people disagree with this but this is the combination that I found works best. Good luck.
