I have a 99 F-250 w/ a PSD and i'm having a fuel gauge problem... I have checked it everytime i've drove it with a different answer I put 10 gal in it and it gave me 1/2 tank, stopped went out later for a drive then it showed it was on an 1/4 tank. Put 10 more gal in it and it went to 3/4, stopped for a hour came back out to go to the store and the same thing it read a 1/2 tank. Has anybody else experianced this should I just go get another sending unit or try and fill it up and see what happens? I unfortunatly have already run out of fuel and never in my life has that ever happened to me before thank god it was in front of my house, and it showed a 1/4 tank then but when I shut the key off and came back after getting fuel it was on empty and the light was on. It is always like a 1/4 or a little less of when it feels like it I can't stand this I want acuracy.Any help would be appreciated.
I can tell you this with my guage when I am parked on a hill like my drive way it is up hill when I get in in the morning it says full 3/4 exetra and when I go for a while it will go down to where the fuel is actually at and if I am pointed down hill it will read like I am looseing gas is that what the situation that you are in shutting it off on hills.
No I am parking on flat ground. It never reads the same. When I came home tonight it said a little over 1/2 when I shut it down 2 hours ago,I just went out a minute ago and just turning the key on and it shows under a 1/2 and its on level ground. The sending unit must be sticking or ? I just don't ever want to run out again man was I mad. Oh well the new truck gremlins have struck and now they need to go away...
Thanks, Bill
I would say the sending unit is sticking but fill it up and see where the guage goes if it goes way past the full mark it is bad if not something else could be wrong sorry I was no help.
Another observation....99 pds w\71k , 6 speed. If i fillup with the engine idling the fuel gauge will NOT go all the way over to full. It will reset\reflect the fact that i have a full tank Only after I have turned the motor off and then restarted the engine. Maybe the computer cannot interpret the fillup during the process but must wait to receive a completely new message from the fuel sending unit upon restart.......sk
