Dremel Tools

I just burned through another Dremel 4000 tool, it went up in smoke. Are any of the Dremel tools worth a crap these days? Am I just better off going to Harbor Freight. at least when they burn up your only out $25.00 ant $90.00

I look at the dremel product as a hobby/craft tool. Very light duty.

I go to my rotozip (dependent on task) when I think I'm going to push the Dremel's.

Not sure what model Dremel I have, but's about 15 yrs old and going strong. 90% of its use is with the thin cut-off discs, the rest for buffing. It's paid for itself many times over, especially cutting rusted nuts off on the front end of my truck.

My dremel with the harbor freight stainless brush sets is my number 1 used tool probably for rust restoration after a short bath in prep and etch.

My first Dremel lasted 15+ years, same type of usage. In the last six years I have burned up three, this one cutting light guage aluminium.

They don't make the 935 anymore, wish they did. The 4000 is made in Mexico. As long as they are not made in the States I might as well try the Harbor Freight.

You might give the die grinder at HF a shot. It uses 1/4" shank tools, but it's only $15 I think.

I had one of the older ones years ago when I had the bikes. Handy little units. Loaned it to my buddy and haven't seen it since. Built in Mexico? My daughters Jetta (money pit)was built there.

If you want a professional product you may want to check out the Metabo line https://www.metabo.com/us/enus/tools...g/die-grinder/
I have a GE700 that I have used for years for cutting, porting, and polishing. This uses a 1/4 inch arbor and has enough torque to wear you out.

I finally gave up and went the HF route. Figured they were cheap and if I broke it I could return it or just buy another. It has lasted very well. Well enough that at high speeds it has bent many of the accessories.Be careful and wear your safety equipment please.
