Howdy folks!

Well, I've been thinkin lately... it can be dangerous, I don't recommend it for everyone... Anyhoo, i've been wondering about options for headers on me pickup.. got a 390 with an MX (yes, MX) tranny... I've read plenty of times that installing standard headers on these trucks is a major pain, so I was thinking.. would shorties be a viable option? Would they maybe help address the cooking starters issue? How much more expensive would it be? things along that line.. If any of ya'll have any ideas, I'd appreciate 'em..

Thanks

I've been tossing around the same header issue. Havn't yet found any satisfying solutions though.
I wonder if there might be some kind of 'van' headers that might solve that itchy hot starter problem. I've seen a few kinds of van headers, but would they fit?

I've got a set of Hooker Comps that seem to fit pretty well.

The insructions included directions for rerouting some "water cooled transmission" lines which my truck didn't have. Perhaps an MX does?

Anyway, there is plenty of room around the C6 and they fit without TOO much hassle.

I have not seen any "shorties" for these trucks?

The MX tranny has cooler lines that plumb into the bottom of the block and lower radiator hose. NO WAY to put headers on it . I was going to...until I saw the cluster of plumbing under there. I have since put the 4spd in it and now have room. I put the cheapie Hedman's on it. It hit a couple places...nothing a ball peen couldn't take care or . I did have to remove the steering stop contraption for room though. No way enough metal to cut off to make room for collector, I tried.

I put Headers on my 69 that had a C6..no problems at all. I even put a 4 spd in it after the fact.

That sounds like what they were talking about. It definitely was not the normal transmission cooler lines.

As I said, my truck did not have any thing that looked anything like what they showed in the destructions.

Ya, I bought my headers/exhaust and was going to put them on before I got the tranny switched...NOT

I told a glance under there and went
My manifolds were scrap and I was really tired of them leaking. I had to wait a couple more weeks til I got the tranny in and then last weekend I put the headers on.
