Hey. I have a 2000 7.3 Diesel Excursion that broke down last August. I finally have the time and finances to try and troubleshoot and fix it. It is currently sitting outside my barn where the rollback dropped it last year. It has not been started since then but I have had a battery conditioner on it the whole time and it turns over just fine.
My problem is that when I got to tow it over to the garage with my tractor, I can't get it to move. I shift it (column shifter) into neutral and verify that it does shift down at the transmission. Then I go to pull it and it just won't budge. It moves slightly forward like it is still in park but won't roll. I have put the rear end up in the air and checked the brakes...they are fine. When I turn the rear wheels they rotate the drive shaft slightly before they hit up against a hard stop.

.
How did you check the brakes ?
If you checked the brakes by rotating the tires can you freely spin them for many revolutions ?
I am trying to understand what you mean by they hit a hard stop. This sounds to me like the tires will jostle back and forth a smidge and then the drive shaft stops them from rotating because the vehicle is is park or the transmission is locked up.
You fellas need to loosen up. This wasn't meant to be anything other than friendly, with a chuckle. I hope the OP has thicker skin that you...
Hey Jay, I know that you have been around here for a couple of years now, but maybe with your very low post count you haven't become used to using the various smilies to convey when you are joking around.
Online forums, where all we can see is the written word with no facial expressions, vocal inflections, or body language can lead to misunderstandings due to how we phase things. Those dopey little smile guys can help make it clear when we are having fun vs being blunt (or worse ).
As far as online forums in general go, this one is pretty damned good, with lots of good folks willing to share knowledge and help each other out. It's not uncommon for the regulars to be quick to protect this place and it's positive vibe when they feel that someone isn't playing nicely. I think that's what we saw above, I hope you can see how your first post in this thread could be seen as a little cold/hard where a new guy is just looking for some help.
Now hopefully we can all get back to helping sschwenzer (if he ever comes back around....) get his EX moving and running again!

Like Tom already covered, smiley's would've helped get the joking nature across. My skin is plenty thick, I have no problems coming in and making sure people feel welcome is all.
I've had my fair share of warnings and personal phone calls from mods when SHTF and I voice my opinion of someone or their actions. The last one is hiding somewhere in FTE mod infamy, hah.
You've been around almost as long as I have, come visit and post with us more often and you'll learn that I'm fun and a little... crazy
Before a guy goes pulling driveshafts off I would make sure they didn't put the e-brake on after they towed it. I know that seems silly but I've spent many hours pulling wrenches because I overthought something. Lol. Also if it's a 4x4 you could put the transfer case in neutral, might help narrow it down. Good luck.
