I am trying to dress up my 400. I would like to go with a Serpentine Belt System. I have a S. pulley for my Powermaster 100A alternator. I can get brackets modified or fabricated. I should be able to get a S. pulley for my Sanden AC compressor. I can probably swap out the PS pump with one with a S. pulley. I need a crank pulley for a Serpentine system and an idler for tension. I have sent an email to March, but no replies yet.
Does anyone know of a serpentine system for a 351M/400?
How about crank pulleys, does a 429/460 pulley fit a 400? Could a Windsor or other pulley be modified to fit?
Here's the March web site page with a serpentine conversion kit (crank, water pump, alternator) that they say works on either Windsor or Cleveland engines:
That looks like it might work. I guess I saw Winsor small block and didn't see Cleveland. I dont see an idler and tensioner listed with the kit. I already have a pulley for the alternator, but I will also need AC and PS.
It looks like you buy the conversion kit with crank, alt. and water pump(normal rotation) pulleys. Then you buy the PS and AC pulleys seperate. There are two serpentine belts. the first is crank, alt and WP adjusted by the alt. The second is the crank, AC and PS pump. The PS pump supplies the adjustment. The PS pump pulley must be ordered by the length it must extend to line up with the crank pulley. All the brackets are stock, self supplied.
Ok, thanks, so you would just adjust the tightness as you would the regular V belt. I appreciate the info. I will look into converting over. I think it would look pretty cool
I am still looking into it. I haven't gotten any replies from March. I may give Summit a call and ask a tech person. I don't know how you get away without an idler for Power Steering and AC. Summit wants about $206 for the set of three pulleys (crank, alt. and water pump). I don't know the price for AC or PS. The AC will be expensive because it includes a clutch. The AC pulley is for a Sanden Compressor, otherwise you are out of luck.
Does anyone live near March Performance in Westland MI? I have written several emails and tech requests with no reply. I would call them, but their # is not toll free. I can imagine sitting on a phone for 1/2 hour running up toll charges.
The # is 734-729-9070.
Ask them what parts I need to order with their Serpentine conversion #1675 with a #P475 pulley and clutch and Ford PS pump conversion pulley(#?). Also ask if an idler is needed and where is it mounted? Also ask if tensioners are used and where are they mounted?
I get on their website with no trouble. It is www.marchperf.com. I have filled out their tech request form, but never get any reply. I guess I should try Summit Racing for tech help.
Their website must have been down for maintenance then.

Are you going to use your truck for a daily driver? If so those aluminum pulleys will not last long even tho they have been hard anodized. I am not sure how many miles you will get without problems but as soon as the belt starts to turn "silver" they are goners...
"Sorry, March does not have a serpentine system for any 335 series engine running a/c."
Evidently there is no mounting bracket for the idler pulley, even though they sell the AC and PS pulleys.
I guess that I will have to call them. I want to find out what it will take to do it and what are the problems. They haven't been overly helpful this far. They need some competition.
My truck is 'show only' right now. I don't think that mileage will be a problem.
While I was typing up the last post another reply came from March Performance.
"You can try using March 2 belt serp pulley kit #2065(includes crank,
w.p. alt and p.s. pulley for ford corporate p.s. pump.) Idler pulley
#740. This would be a 2 belt serp system. You are completely on your own
regarding brackets, belt routing and belt availability. I am not familiar
with that Sanden compressor. I know that most Sanden compressors do not
share the same shaft as the 508. So I doubt the p475 will work."
This is more like it, now I know what to order and where the problems lie. I think that I can get a pulley from Sanden for the AC. I would like to get a drawing of that #2065 kit showing offsets for the pulleys and the two belts.
