Lift Questions

Im sure this is a subject that has been beat to death but i am working on an 88 F150 RCLB 4x4 and i am wanting to put a lift and 35's under it. *edit for stupidity*

what brand lift would you use and why? I have been eyeballing superlift kits as i drove a truck with the full superrunner setup before and it drove and rode really nice.

thoughts?

I hope you budget for some gears. 35" tires are going to wipe out the effective gear ratio.

And that has nothing to do with my question. The truck is a 351w w/3.55's it will do just fine until that time would come. Truck will be 90% street driven

How much of a lift are you considering? My 88 has a 4" suspension lift & 2" body. I also have the 3.55 gearing. Just remember that it will throw your speedometer off by 1.21. Example: when driving 55 mph, you're actually going 66.55 mph.

I'm back and forth at the moment....either 4" and 33's or 6" and 35's... No body lift.

I'm well aware of the speedometer issue.... I'm 36 and have been playing with 4x4's since I was 14.... But spent most of my time building samurais.

Was just curious what the masses thought about various brands of lift kits. My original post asked about fitting 35's but I found that pretty quick.

Rough Country is of decent quality, and the price is reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to use their products.

Personally, I wouldn't go higher than 33" tires, and you can fit those with a leveling kit so long as your suspension isn't all clapped out.

That's pretty typical. There are guys here that have gotten away with using coils from 2 wheel drive F250s to level their trucks. I have no idea on the ride quality on that set up though.

I have the 2wd f250 coil setup with 33x10.5 tires. The ride is firm but i never bottom out the front end anymore. It used to bounce off the bump stops four wheeling pretty regularly. For caster sake, a lift with drop brackets is likely a wiser route, albeit significantly more expensive.

While I have cost in mind...I'm like looking at doing a lift to fix a few issues...sagging springs in the front....bad shocks...I'll need brake hoses... So the lift is kind of a bonus. I'll be pulling the front axle to do ball joints and center pivot bushings so now is the time.

Rough Country seems to be the best bang for your buck.

FWIW, I have the "leveled" look described above - I replaced the front coils on my '94 with Moog cc824 springs, then I replaced the rear leaf springs with F250 5 pack leafs and removed the blocks. The overall look ended up raising the front end about 1 1/2" and the back end about 1/2" - 1." It needed an alignment afterwards with new camber bushings. It definitely rides firmer than before but it also corners like it is on rails. I'm pretty convinced I could fit 33's under it with the correct wheels and offset.

Anyways, it might be a cheaper option.

I have the CC844 springs, but I have 5.8L/E4OD/4X4/supercab, so I wanted the higher rate over the CC824. They were $65 shipped on amazon. Caster/camber bushings were something like $25 each. I too needed all new front end bushings (went all poly from Energy) and shocks (Bilsteins rock). Even with 33s, truck feels much more stable in corners over stock suspension and 29" cheap Class B tires. Body roll is now minimal, especially empty. I do have front/rear sway bars though.

That said, I don't think you'd regret a real lift. If I did it again I think I'd do a 2.5" or 4" with drop brackets or extended radius arms.
