interior carpet

Hey guys for years now I have wanted to take my seats and center console out to really clean the carpet very well or even change it out. I talked to my snap on dealer about it awhile back and he told me if i unplug my seats the airbags will deploy. I just talked to a buddy who did this on his 00 dodge and said there is a switch in his seat in case the truck rolls it knows that and sets the bags off. Is there anything i should worry about or will i be ok?

Thank you,
AJ

I'd like to know this answer as well. I plan on removing my carpet and installing the pre molded vinyl floor.

I removed my seats in my 01 Lariat about 6-7 mths ago to install a fold down center console. I completely removed the seats from the vehicle. No airbags were deployed during this activity.

No such thing in our trucks, the only thing that deploys the air bags are the impact sensors on the bottom of the front headlights. To be on the safe side disconnect your battery's.

My drivers seat has been unplugged for years because hate the seatbelt reminder.

And I highly doubt there is a vehicle anywhere in this world that is designed to deploy the airbags because there is an open in the airbag circuit.

Can you imagine the liability? A wire breaks and you get a face full of airbag at 75mph?

I'm know manufactures do some pretty strange things that defy logic without the whole back story ( Pontiac Aztec) but But when it comes to safety they don't mess around.

Removed my driver's seat a couple of months ago to re-upholster it. No airbag detonation. AFAIK our dinosaurs only have 2 airbags (steering wheel and passenger's side dash). I wouldn't think that driver orientation or seat condition/status would trigger them. Maybe on the new cars with 15 airbags that form a cocoon...

I've unplugged seats and removed them on several of these vehicles with no worries. I've even unplugged seats on a newer vehicle that had air bags in the seat without it going off.

I've also removed the air bag on the steering wheel on a few 99 - 03 super duties with no detonation.

If you're worried, disconnect both batteries. On our trucks, I don't even bother to remove the key from the ignition when I pull the seats. (Neither does the seat shop guy I've used to have my seat repaired.)

There's nothing to worry about with removing your seats. The air bags won't deploy. There are some vehicles that will set an airbag code (but still not deploy any air bags) if the seat is removed, but our trucks aren't one of them.

If you're opposed to transformers, or spending more money than you should, another option is this for less money (from my wife's truck)
