cs144 install

Has anyone swapped a GM CS144 alternator into a dentside? I have one in the garage that doesn't fit anything I own so i figured i could try it. Case clocking will be a bit of an issue but i can work that out. I curious about the wiring. My truck has the oem amp gauge and all the diagrams for the CS144 show charge lights. I have also read that the light can be omitted by substituting a 50 ohm resister. I can sit down with the diagrams and work out the interface, I'm just not sure how it will get along with the stock charge gauge. I know i will have to upgrade other wiring to handle the 140 amp potential.

Given enough time, money, or energy anything can be done!

The Ford harness has the provisions for a charge light, or excite wire. I can't see why it won't work.

Not sure about one of them but I put a 10SI style on mine and it works good although I didn't use any of the factory wiring. Those stock amp gauges aren't much good anyways IMHO. The large bolt hole needed to be drilled out to 7/16. The Chevys used a smaller bolt (3/8") than the Fords. As for wiring I installed a oil pressure switch to excite the alternator and upgraded the charge wire to 2ga and installed a 120amp fuse inline.

im pretty sure the resister needs to be in the 300-500 ohm range and 2 watt or higher. The alternater can be clocked to what ever you want in 90 deg incerments, you just have to take the 4 main bolts off and turn it to where you need it... There is a chance that 180 may be too far for the internal wires.

As for the amp gauge Id be really hesitant to keep that. You are talking about up to 140 amps into a gauge that was meant for a 70 max. You'd also have to run a very heavy gauge wire all the way to the gauge and then back to the battery. You might want to go with a volt gauge and then you can just run the output of the alt strait to the battery.
