My 96 7.3 was setting in the garage and not been driven for several weeks, it was running fine when I parked it I had just put a new mechanical fuel pump on it. I started it to drive it and it is running but really rough with no power. Like it has 1 or 2 dead cyl.
It did have a battery that was a dead short , I replaced that and changed the fuel filter, but it still runs rough. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks RB
How much have you driven the truck since you changed fuel pumps? Could just be some air in the system.
There are two 5-wire plugs on valve cover gasket on each head. Unplug them and look for melted plastic and burnt pins or signs of arcing.
I drove the truck about 200 miles after the fuel pump replacement.
Those wires have been replaced about 10k miles ago.
It just seems wierd that it was running great when I parked it.
Thanks RB
Ok I have finally had time to work on my truck for a little while.
I had to wait on a turbo intake boot that I got from Riff Raff, great guys!
I had 57 psi at schrader valve.
All the connectors looked good , nice and shiny. There was a little dampness in 1 looked oily.
Full of oil.
both tanks full of fuel.
Not sure where the IPR nut is?
I had an issue a while back but it turned out to be a loose injector connection on UVCH. UVCH is always the first thing I check on my 7.3. Mine lost power and sounded really. If you put it in drive and stall on the converter at 900 rpm and the truck shakes I would unplug each pig tail at a time (running and in park) on the valve cover and you should notice a huge difference if you unplug one and if notice a little difference in sound that pinpoints out 2 injectors. I would check connections before buying a new wiring harness.

Ok I will look at them again, (mine look good, shiny and clean but a little oily) and try the unplug idea also.
Is the connections on the topside of the valve covers usually the problem or a connection actually under the valve cover?
Thanks RB
