I am looking for feedback on towing experience with the new EcoBoost.
Our current setup is a 2005 Excursion with a 7600 pound, 36 foot long travel trailer.
Our last Expedition with the 5.4 just never felt up to the task of pulling that trailer. It felt stable, just never enough power.
Any real world experience would be helpful.
Is that 7600 empty or full? Are you towing allot in the mountains or out on the flats? you figure at least 40 gallons of liquids and all the people and crap added onto it you could be pushing 9600 lbs if your not careful. We have a 30ft TT thats 7500lbs empty that I tow it with my F350 PS and wouldn't dream of trying it with the expedition. don't get me wrong the ecoboost has a ton of power and it does great with my car hauler (around 5,000 lbs) but the added weight and being in the mountains at elevations up to 9,000 feet I think would be to much for it (and me). But not everyone wants to be able to go 75 up the pass so do your homework, stay in your comfort zone and have fun!
The ecoboost would tow that weight great but the vehicle handling will fall short of your Excursion.
Agreed. I pull a 6000lb (dry) 30 ft travel trailer with ours, and I wouldn't want to go any heavier or bigger. I had a 2011 F-150 Ecoboost before, and the truck handled the load better. It had noticeably stiffer rear suspension. The SUV is set up more for a comfortable ride.
But I can say, categorically, that the powertrain will not be an issue. The Ecoboost with the 6-speed auto with Tow/Haul is fantastic.
