My 97 PSD has been giving me probs with oil leaks here the past few weeks- Had my rear main replaced and now I have (after changing oil again) coming from the front of the motor from what looks like either the valve cover gasket which is 9 months old or maybe the galley plug on the front drivers side? How hard is it to change this out? No water in oil-not running hot -just leaking oil from front down the side. Do they make a dye that you can add to oil to tell where leak is coming from? This leak is coming from behind a/c compressor and kind of hard to tell but really hate taking truck to dealer to diagnose as always seems tear into the pocketbook Any help appreciated guys-THXS-
Sounds exactly like a galley plug. Every things working right, no warning lights, but oil running down the side of the block. From front to back. Does this sound familiar? It happened a few months back on my passenter side(front) of the block. While replacing the galley plug, my brother commented, " I wish this would have happened on the driver side." In my 99F350 it seems most of the brackets and components are on the passengers side. It is not that hard to replace. Made sure you clean the area before replacing. Depending on year model will determine what kind of tool to use to remove the old one. My 99 was easy with common tools. The part cost $21.67 plus tax. It will cost $250 or so to have Ford do it. They wanted to charge me for 3hours of labor. So I did it my self (flying blind) in 1hr and 45 minutes... Your choice. Good luck.
thxs guys going today to try and find some, has anyone ever changed the drivers side plug out? do you have to take the a/c compressor off? thxs for the help guys
yes i have changed the drivers side, and the passenger side front and rear. you have to remove the bracket for the a c comp. but you dont have to take it off. go to your local international dealer to get the plug, cost about 13 dollars. {where i get mine.} just read and follow the instructions in the package. 25000 miles and no leaks!
Check the high pressure oil line on top of the valve cover on the drivers side. 10-1 says thats what it is. There are 2 o rings that bust every so often and just need to be replaced. Just imagine the oil line is set at 3000 psi. So change that first. thanks

Hey,
I got a 97 PSD too, same problem, after 5 hours of removing and cleaning I found out that in fact the plug is leaking in the front behind the A/C unit.
Curious, were there any special tools to use or just remove it with a 1/2 socket?
How about any diagrams on a head breakdown.
Thanks
Tim
