Hey, I am a newbie here, and I am having a little problem with my 2000 Explorer Limited V8 5.0. Everytime in the morning on my way to work, when I fire the car up for the first time, the oil guage is always pegged down, and then after a few minutes, it flutters, and then remains at a steady healthy normal point. Is this something I should be worried about, and have taken care of immediately? Thanks in advance.
I agree, it is probably the sending unit "SWITCH". Remember,
the oil pressure gauge is not REAL. Once there is about 7 PSI
of oil pressure, the sending unit "SWITCH" closes, and the current
through a 20 ohm resistor makes the gauge read about half-scale. It WILL NOT show fluctuations in oil pressure.
Another thing, seeing as I am new to Ford engines where would I find the oil pressure sending unit? I did some searching on the net, and havent really been able to find a clear description for the 302. Thanks again
