1989 F250 with M5OD and 302. I just pulled the rear drive shaft to have a new one built, since mine was bent. Am I able to drive it short distances, 3 miles one way, to and from work for the weekend using FWD only with no fears of anything getting screwed up?
Only if your transfer case has a flange output. A lot of these trucks have a slip-yoke output, and you'll just end up blowing your transfer case oil everywhere.
TBH, I don't know what it has under there. I used to know, but I haven't turned wrenches in years. Pulling the shaft today was the first time I've had a wrench in my hand in years.
Unless of course you have a spare slip yoke and can figure out a way to keep it in there while it's turning going down the road! Probably wouldn't be wise.
That means I'll be driving a Bowtie until it's fixed. Not that I have much to complain about with it, other than the badge. The Tahoe is a nice ride, and it does have working A/C...but it's not the F-250. LOL
It's either that, or borrow my daughter's car, which sits too low for this old man's back to handle. 1986 Mercury Cougar. Nice car, too low. I'd rather have the Tahoe. LOL
Nah...we're only talking a weekend. I can get through it. Besides, driving the Bowtie isn't that bad, and the stink from it washes off with a couple of showers.
