Front axle Identification

Hi all.

I bought a 1960 F100 4x4 about 2 months ago. I am trying to find parts for it since the PO kind of *******ized it. It has a 440/727, 14 bolt FF rear, and possibly a dana 60 front(closed knuckle). It still has the original dana 24 transfer case.

So the front axle has that reads 4.09 D4TA SA, BOM is 603480-1. I went to dana's site and entered the BOM and it does not exist. The weird thing is the rear axle is 63 WMS which means it came from a C&C type truck. Maybe the front did also? I just took the drum off and it has no screws like I read about. It also has 12x3 brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

Plans are to fix it up and when the 440 dies I want to put a 460 with a 4 speed auto. Overdrive would be pretty sweet. I am clearing the rust off of it. Welding a few plates where the PO cut out the bed. Needs windshield and both side windows replaced, new tires and rims. I needed a project and I got it!!!

Your BOM code is on page 57 at the bottom of the page. It's a 74/75 F-250 HD open diff. Stu

Thanks! I have searched for a bit trying to find it. The dana site did not even have it listed on their BOM site.

Weird. Maybe somebody upgraded it to 12x3" brakes?
Yes it does have the locking hubs up front.

Looking at the dana identification covers, it looks like the dana 60/70. Looks like the 70 has a bit more on top which I don't think mine does.

Differential Identification | West Coast Differentials
12" x 3" front drum brakes: 1967/72 F350.

The D4TA-SA ID tag number you posted: Parts catalog says this is a 3,500 lbs. capacity Dana 44-6EFGH .. no free running hubs.

Dana 70's were only available as a rear axle, were only installed in F350's.

No free wheeling hubs? Are those the hub lock and unlock so you can make it part time 4x4?
If yes, then mine have those.
