Broader Performance in Weatherford, TX.
Great guy to deal with but don't be in a hurry. He's kind of a one horse show.
Go with the wide ratio option for a lower first gear. He installs the gearset from an E40D. C6 first gear is 2.46, the E40D is 2.71. If you have a 3.00 rear (common in an F100), going to an E40D ratio would be the equivalent of going to a 3.30 ratio rear for acceleration but you'd still have the 3.00 final drive ratio. http://www.broaderperformance.com/
If you are of the DIY bent, there's a book you should buy: How to Rebuild and Modify Ford C4 and C6 Automatic Transmissions by George Reid. The C6 section focuses on TCI kits. Most interesting is the "low drag" kit that costs about $700. It uses parts from the later A4OD tranny that deliver all sorts of benefits including better gear ratios.
Well I'm pretty much set on getting a complete unit with the torque converter from Hughes, B@M etc. and having it installed by a local shop. My garage space is limited and I don't like the idea of having to work in cramped conditions on the floor again.
broader is a wizard, I bought a torque converer from him, salty (expensive) but was EXACTLY what he said it was and it lasted several years behind a souped up 460 and then a cobra jet 545 stroker pretty good outfit. I finally shelled it back in 2016 I think. I called him he was surprised that anything pump gas could tear it up. But he said that they are even better now. I sled pulled, towed, hauled firewood and just went all out with it.
