Bed Mounts

On my 65 3/4 ton 4x4, the bed mounts seem to be made of wood. Is there someone who is remaking these out of poly, or are there some off of another year truck that will work for when I go to change my bed.

C'mon guys, I know that someone has changed their bed before, tell me how the heck you did it, and what you used for the mounts/

I believe your mounts may be home made if they are made out of wood. Mine were plastic and they were cut the wrong size from side to side.

Hmmm... I couldn't tell you if they were stock or not. So can I still get the correct mounts (new), or will I have to grab some off of the donor truck?

Mine are 1/2" thick rubber pad - like conveyor belt material. I guess it works!

I will have to double check, but I thought my bed mounts were wooden also...I am the 2nd owner of my truck and I know nothing major was done to it besides change oil.

Let me dbl check the next couple days and get back to ya.

My '77 step side has wooden bed mounts. but that is a step side. You could use hockey pucks to make bedmounts. they are only like a puck a piece.

Mine are wood also. They look like fir, definely not oak. The wood works good at transmitting the load up to the bed floor. If you used rubber as thick as the wood the bed would sit lower with a load in it or at least until it sat on the flange of the channel. My blocks are about .25" thicker than the channel thickness so the steal channels sit .25" above the frame when installed.

That's the second time I've heard hockey pucks referenced for use as body mounts - the first time I thought it was a joke; now after thinking about it they don't really sound like a bad idea if aftermarket ones aren't available...

well think about the abuse they can take John. I am a believer after a old time body man showed me how indestructable they are. They don't take to fire easily and when they do they go right out.

The "take to fire" comment is interesting... It's not something one would normally think of coming up in a discussion about body mounts; Do we have first-hand experience with lighting them on up?

So, back to the question...Where can you get replacements, and out of what material if you don't want to use wood or make your own?

I asked a cabinet maker friend to make four out of oak scraps for my styleside. There is no off the shelf dimension lumber that is the right size.
I'm not sure why they're required;the box seems to sit on the frame steel to steel. Incidentally, the swb styleside does not use them.

There should be something in there - the frame flexes a little whether you want it to or not (you don't...), it'll cause corrosion and wear at the contact points without some kind of buffer between them.
